I was surprised this recipe wasn't already on 'Zaar - a favorite of ours during cold weather and very easy to make. My son often makes this dinner for his friends.

PAULA DEEN'S BO BURGER

Paula Deen's Bo Burger image

These burgers take a little more time than regular ones, but they are so worth it! I saw Paula Deen make this on TV and they just made my mouth water...and I'm not really that fond of hamburgers. ;-) But these are so juicy and wonderful...I hope you enjoy! Note: These took a little longer to make than the suggested 8-10 minutes per side, but I used 2 lbs of beef for really BIG burgers and I also used my electric skillet, so maybe that made a difference too.

Time 40m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 lbs 80% lean ground beef
salt
pepper
1/2 cup cold water
1 onion, sliced 1/4-inch thick
4 eggs
4 hamburger buns
4 slices American cheese

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper.
  • Add 1/2 c cold water and mix by hand until meat has absorbed all the water (the water keeps the burgers moist and juicy).
  • Shape into 4 patties.
  • Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Spray the skillet with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Add the burgers and cook to desired temperature, about 8-10 minutes per side for medium-well.
  • Remove the burgers from the pan and set aside.
  • Add the onion slices to the same skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides, being careful to keep them in whole slices; it should take about 3 minutes per side.
  • Remove from pan and set aside.
  • Crack the eggs into the same skillet and cook until the yolk is not runny. Carefully remove from pan.
  • Lay the bottom of the 4 hamburger buns on a flat surface.
  • Top each bun with a burger.
  • Top the burgers with 1 egg, onion slice, 1 slice of cheese and then the top bun.
  • Lightly press the sandwich together with your hand.
  • Place the sandwiches into the pan and cook for 1 minute on each side to griddle the buns.
  • Serve and enjoy!

HOBO BURGERS

Hobo Burgers image

I got this recipe from Paula Deen's show. It is so easy and good. Great for cookouts and camping. I spray the foil first so it doesn't stick and if I cook on the grill I will wrap a piece of cabbage on outside of each foil to keep from burning.

HOBO BURGERS - GREAT FOR CAMPING, KIDS

Hobo Burgers - Great for Camping, Kids image

I think this is an old Boy Scout Recipe (they probably didn't use the beer, though). We look forward to camping just so we can make this (although there is no reason not to make it in the oven, we just like the "specialness" of it). I don't have kids, but if I were a kid, this would be a lot of fun to make, and easy! Prep time is just chopping and putting together your Creation!

Time 35m

Yield 1 per person, varies

Number Of Ingredients 12

ground beef
chopped onion
chopped garlic
1 bag frozen vegetables, chopped
vegetables, chopped
American cheese
beer
hot sauce (like RedHot)
salt
pepper
garlic powder
spices

Steps:

  • Cut off a very large square of aluminum foil--at least 18 inches long.
  • Each person gets their own individual HoboBurger, customized!
  • Take a Handful of Chopmeat, place in center of foil (amount can vary--I use a little, my husband uses about 1/3 lb.) Put 1/2 Handful of each different vege on top of meat, mush them up with meat (Or make a"Meat Moat" and put the veges on the inside of well) Add spices to taste.
  • Douse with hot sauce--a lot cooks off if you use Red Hot.
  • Add a splash of beer for additional moisture, flavor.
  • Rip up 2 pieces of american cheese, and mix them in last.
  • Make a"foil duck" out of foil by folding over to seal, crimping the ends into handles, and shape like a duck neck--makes it easier to take off the fire if you are camping.
  • It's also a good idea to double bag if cooking on camp fire.
  • Cook over fire/in oven for at least 20 minutes, depending on how much meat you have, how hot fire is, etc.
  • It's done when the juices are boiling inside.
  • Gets VERY juicy inside, so don't burn your self, and don't poke holes in foil.
  • This is so great bc.
  • you can use whatever veges you want-carrots, onions, corn, red/green peppers, broccoli, peas, beans, etc.
  • Use fresh or frozen.
  • Easy clean up--just throw out foil.
