A little bit of sweet and a little bit of spicy. A nice twist to a traditionally seasonal food.

4 sweet potatoes
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon chipotle chile powder
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
¼ cup olive oil

Steps:

  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and lightly oil the grate.
  • Cook potatoes on High heat in a microwave oven until softened slightly, about 10 minutes. Cut potatoes lengthwise into 1/2-inch thick sticks.
  • Combine salt, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, chipotle powder, vinegar, and olive oil in a large container with a tight-fitting lid. Place sweet potatoes in spice mixture; cover and shake gently until well coated.
  • Grill over low to medium heat, turning often and basting with any leftover sauce. Cook until sweet potatoes are fork-tender, 10 to 15 minutes.

Grilled Sweet Potatoes with Chipotle-Honey Sauce image

Prepared on the grill and paired with a spicy sauce, these sweet potatoes make a wonderful side with most any meal. Plus, they take only 20 minutes to make!

1 cup honey
4 chipotle chiles in adobo sauce (from 7-oz can), finely chopped
2 tablespoons adobo sauce (from can of chiles)
6 medium sweet potatoes
1/3 cup olive or vegetable oil
2 teaspoons kosher (coarse) salt

Steps:

  • Heat gas or charcoal grill. In small bowl, mix sauce ingredients; set aside.
  • Cut each sweet potato lengthwise into 4 or 5 slices; brush both sides with oil. Carefully brush additional oil on grill rack. Place potatoes on grill over medium heat; sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of the salt.
  • Cover grill; cook 8 to 10 minutes, turning once and sprinkling with remaining 1 teaspoon salt, until potatoes are tender. Serve with sauce.
