This is a recipe I saved from Ediets. I have found that I prefer a little sea salt, fresh ground pepper and splenda mixed with the sauce, but the original recipe did not call for it. I hope you enjoy!

2 1/2 cups fresh green beans
2 garlic cloves
5 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
2 1/2 teaspoons olive oil

Steps:

  • Rinse and snap beans.
  • Mince garlic.
  • Mix garlic, vinegar and olive oil and set aside.
  • Steam beans until tender but firm, approximately 10-15 minutues.
  • Toss with balsamic vinegar dressing.
  • Can be refrigerated and served cold.

4 slices bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
2/3 cup shallot, sliced
1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 t dried thyme)
2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • Bring large pot of salted water to boil.
  • Add beans, cook just until tender but still bright green, 5 minutes.
  • Drain well.
  • Meanwhile, in large skillet over medium-high heat, cook bacon until lightly browned, 5 minutes.
  • Add shallots and thyme; cook until shallots are tender and bacon is crisp, 3 minutes.
  • Stir in sugar; cook until golden, 2 minutes.
  • Add beans; toss well.
  • Stir in vinegar, scraping up browned bits from bottom of pan.
  • Stir in salt and pepper.

7 slices bacon
⅔ cup brown sugar
¼ cup butter, melted
7 teaspoons soy sauce
1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder

Steps:

  • Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place the drained green beans in a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • Cook bacon in a microwave on microwave-safe plate for 2 minutes until slightly cooked. Lay the bacon on top of the green beans.
  • Combine the brown sugar, melted butter, soy sauce, and garlic powder in a small bowl. Pour the butter mixture over the green beans and bacon. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.

½ cup water
¼ cup brown sugar, or more to taste
1 teaspoon vegetable seasoning salt (such as McCormick® Vegetable Supreme® Seasoning)

  • Place bacon in a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until crisp, about 10 minutes. Drain bacon slices on paper towels, reserving 1 tablespoon bacon drippings. Crumble bacon.

Once upon a time, Dad received a similar recipe with a bundle of fresh green beans. He made the recipe once and then lost the card. After many attempts to recreate that flavor, he declares that this, his own recipe, is even better!

1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
3 tablespoons light soy sauce
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon white sugar
2 tablespoons sesame oil
2 teaspoons minced garlic

Steps:

  • Place the green beans in a large saucepan or pot with one inch of water. You may place them in a steamer insert if you have one. Bring to a boil, cover and cook for 5 minutes, they should still be firm and bright green.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and sugar; set aside.
  • Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until starting to brown. Add the green beans and stir to coat with the oil. Stir in the soy sauce mixture and simmer for a couple of minutes uncovered to reduce the sauce. Transfer the beans to a serving dish and pour the sauce over them.
