Looking for a truly elegant finale for your holiday dinner? My dessert will do the trick. It looks so regal surrounded by pretty sugared fruit, and the flavor is divine. A friend gave me this recipe several years ago, and it's been in high demand at my house ever since.-June Bridges, Franklin, Indiana

1 cup sour cream
1 cup heavy whipping cream
3/4 cup sugar
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup cold water
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Seedless green and red grapes
Additional sugar

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine sour cream and cream until well blended. Gradually stir in sugar. Cook and stir over medium heat just until mixture is warm and sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat., In a small microwave-safe bowl, sprinkle gelatin over cold water; let stand for 1 minute. Microwave, uncovered, on high for 40 seconds. Stir; let stand for 1 minute or until gelatin is completely dissolved. Stir into sour cream mixture., In a small bowl, beat cream cheese until light and fluffy. Gradually add gelatin cream mixture and vanilla just until combined. Pour into a 4-cup mold coated with cooking spray. Chill for at least 4 hours or until set., Dip grapes into water and shake off excess moisture; dip into sugar, turning to coat. Unmold dessert onto a serving platter; surround with sugared grapes.

12 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1 cup heavy cream
3 tablespoons minced scallions, white and green parts (2 scallions)
2 tablespoons minced fresh dill
1 tablespoon minced fresh chives
Grated zest of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Place the cream cheese in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Whip until smooth. With the mixer on low, slowly add the cream and then the scallions, dill, chives, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Whisk until firm.
  • Line a 6-inch coeur a la creme mold or a 6-inch sieve with a few layers of cheesecloth, allowing the excess to drape over the sides. Pour the cream cheese mixture into the cheesecloth and smooth the top. Fold the excess cheesecloth over the top of the creme. Suspend the sieve over a small bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight.
  • When ready to serve, discard the liquid that has collected in the bowl and invert the creme onto a plate. Serve chilled with crackers and a small knife.

This salad is so easy to make and every time I take it to a potluck I get asked for the recipe!

1 pound seedless green grapes
1 pound seedless red grapes
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (7 ounce) jar marshmallow creme
1 (6 ounce) package slivered almonds

Steps:

  • Wash grapes in a colander under running water, and remove all stems. Place in a large bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, stir together the cream cheese and marshmallow creme until smooth and creamy. Pour the mixture over the grapes. Using a rubber spatula or large serving spoon, fold the mixture into the grapes until well coated. Fold in the almonds.
  • This salad may be served immediately, or covered and refrigerated for 1 hour to set slightly, and to allow flavors to blend.

1 lb veal cutlet, thinly sliced
1/4 lb thinly sliced prosciutto
2 cups thinly sliced mushrooms
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon finely chopped shallot
1/2 cup dry white wine
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Julienne veal and prosciutto.
  • Heat the butter and when hot (but not browning) add the veal and stir rapidly.
  • Salt and pepper. Add the prosciutto and stir fry briefly. Use a slotted spoon to remove the meat.
  • Add mushrooms to skillet and cook until wilted. Add the shallots and cook about a minute, then add the wine.
  • Cook, stirring, until liquid is almost completely reduced, then add the cream.
  • Cook about 5 minutes over high heat, stirring. Add the meats and juices.
  • Combine and cook quickly until piping hot.
  • Check seasoning; salt and pepper as desired.
  • Serve immediately with rosti potatoes (traditional) or egg noodles.

1 750 milliliter bottle off-dry Riesling
4 cups black seedless grapes or red seedless grapes
10 tablespoons sugar, divided
11 large egg yolks
Pinch of sea salt
2 1/4 cups heavy cream
3/4 cup whole milk
3/4 cup sour cream
Eight 3/4-cup ramekins

Steps:

  • Bring wine, grapes, and 4 tablespoons sugar to a boil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until mixture measures 2 cups, about 1 hour; chill.
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Using an electric mixer, beat yolks, 6 tablespoons sugar, and salt in a large bowl until pale yellow, about 2 minutes.
  • Bring cream to a simmer in a medium saucepan over medium heat; gradually whisk into yolk mixture. Whisk in milk and sour cream. Pour through a fine-mesh sieve set over a medium pitcher. Divide among ramekins; cover each with foil and place in a large roasting pan. Add enough hot water to pan to come halfway up sides of ramekins.
  • Bake pots de crème until just set in center, about 1 hour. Uncover and chill until cold, about 3 hours. Spoon grapes over.

I found this on another site. We gave it a try and it's really simple and delicious. I had it on the table in no time so it's great for a quick weeknight meal. Try it over biscuits. I'm posting this for ZWT5 for France.

1 1/2 lbs chicken tenderloins (I used regular chicken breasts and cubed them)
salt and pepper
1 pint heavy cream

Steps:

  • Melt half of the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Season chicken tenders with salt and pepper, and saute them in butter until golden on all sides, about 10 minutes.
  • Add the remaining butter, reduce heat to medium, and cook for 5 more minutes.
  • Pour the heavy cream into the skillet, and simmer gently for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and chicken is cooked through.
  • Serve with fresh crusty French bread for sopping up the sauce.
