A graham cracker and nut streusel swirls through this quick, cake mix fix-up. Our family has been making and enjoying this delicious cake for many years. This is wonderful with a cup of hot tea!

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 ⅓ cups graham cracker crumbs
¾ cup chopped walnuts
¾ cup packed brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
⅔ cup butter, melted
1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 cup water
¼ cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
½ teaspoon butter flavored extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch pan. Make the streusel: In a medium bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, nuts, brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir in the melted butter. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, water, oil, and eggs. Beat on low speed with an electric mixer just until moistened. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes longer. Spread 1/2 of the batter into a greased 9x13 inch pan. Sprinkle on 1/2 of the streusel mixture. Carefully spread the remaining 1/2 of the cake batter over the streusel, and sprinkle with the remaining streusel.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool slightly, then drizzle with the powdered sugar icing. Best if served warm. Makes 12 to 16 servings.
  • To make the Icing: In a small bowl, combine confectioners sugar with vanilla and butter flavoring. Add a few drops of water until you achieve drizzling consistency.

3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup chopped pecans
1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2/3 cup butter, melted
1 package yellow cake mix (regular size)
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon milk

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the cracker crumbs, brown sugar, pecans and cinnamon. Stir in butter; set aside. Prepare cake mix according to package directions. , Pour half of the batter into a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Sprinkle with half of the graham cracker mixture. Carefully spoon the remaining batter on top. Sprinkle with the remaining graham cracker mixture., Bake at 350° for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. 10 whole graham crackers
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
3 tablespoons melted butter
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/2 cups chopped pecans or 1 1/2 cups walnuts
1 (18 ounce) box white cake mix or 1 (18 ounce) box French vanilla cake mix
1 (3 ounce) box French vanilla instant pudding
4 eggs
1/4 cup vegetable oil or 1/4 cup canola oil
1 cup water

Steps:

  • Set oven to 350 degrees.
  • Butter a 13 x 9-inch glass baking dish.
  • For the streusel; place the graham crackers in a plastic bag, seal and then roll with a rolling pin until crushed (do not crush until fine) place the crumbs in a bowl.
  • Add in the brown sugar, 1/2 cup plus 3 tablespoon melted butter and cinnamon; mix until blended, then add in the pecans or walnuts; set aside.
  • For the cake; in a large bowl beat all cake ingredients together until blended.
  • Pour HALF the cake batter into prepared buttered baking dish.
  • Sprinkle with HALF of the streusel mix evenly over the top of the batter.

A friend gave me this recipe and it has become one of my favorites. We were camping in California and she brought us over several pieces of this delicious cake warm just out of the oven. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

1- 1/2 c (I use 1 pkg) graham cracker crumbs
3/4 c packed brown sugar
3/4 c chopped pecans or walnuts
1-1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
2/3 c butter or margarine--melted
1 pkg (18 1/2 oz) yellow cake mix
1/2 c powered sugar
1 Tbsp milk

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven at 350* bake 40-45 Min. Combine first 5 ingredients, set aside.
  • 2. Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Pour half of batter into 9 x 13 x2" greased baking pan. Sprinkle with half of graham cracker mixture.
  • 3. Carefully spoon remaining cake batter on top. Sprinkle with remaining graham cracker mixture. Bake until toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool.
  • 4. Combine powdered sugar and milk. Drizzle over cake. Enjoy!

2 c graham cracker crumbs
3/4 c choppd pecans
3/4 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 1/2 stick butter
1 box yellow or vanilla cake mix
1 c water
1/2 c oil
3 eggs

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350*.
  • 2. Prepare 9x13 inch pan by spraying or greasing.
  • 3. In a bowl, mix graham cracker crumbs, pecans, brown sugar, cinnamon and melted butter. Set aside.
  • 4. In another bowl, blend cake mix, water, oil and eggs on medium speed for 3 minutes.
  • 5. Pour half of cake batter in prepared pan. Sprinkle with half of crumb mixture. Pour remaining cake batter evenly over crumb mixture. Spread remaining crumb mixture evenly over top of cake batter.
  • 6. Bake for 45-50 minutes.
  • 7. For a Glaze: Mix 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar with 3 tablespoons water or a little more until desired consistency. Drizzle over cake while still hot.
  • 8. Serves 8 to 10
