1 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
1 cup crisp rice cereal
1 cup diced candy orange slices
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or raisins
Additional raisins or chocolate chips and candy orange slices

Steps:

  • In a bowl, cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture. Stir in oats, cereal, orange slices and chips or raisins. , Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a fork. Decorate with raisin or chocolate chip eyes and orange slice mouths. Bake at 350° for 10-14 minutes. Cool on wire racks.

Celebrate Halloween or fall with this fun and "scary" dessert. These purple people eater cupcakes are baked using Betty Crocker® vanilla cake mix and decorated using Betty Crocker® white frosting.

1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ vanilla cake mix
Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
3 cups Betty Crocker™ Whipped fluffy white frosting (from two 12-oz containers)
2 cups purple candy melts
1 tablespoon shortening
1 teaspoon purple paste food color
18 large candy eyes

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Place paper baking cup in each of 24 regular-size muffin cups. Make, bake and cool cake mix as directed on box for cupcakes, using water, oil and eggs. Line cookie sheet with waxed paper. Crumble 6 cupcakes into large bowl; stir in 1/4 cup of the frosting. Shape into 18 (1-inch) balls; place on cookie sheet. Freeze 15 minutes or until firm; keep refrigerated.
  • In microwavable bowl, microwave candy melts and shortening on Medium (50%) 1 minute, then in 15-second intervals, until melted; stir until smooth. Remove several cake balls from refrigerator at a time. Using fork, dip cake balls in melted candy; tap off excess. Return to cookie sheet; refrigerate.
  • Line second cookie sheet with waxed paper. Spoon remaining melted candy into resealable food-storage plastic bag; seal bag. Cut off tiny corner of bag; squeeze bag to pipe 18 "horns" and 36 "wings" onto cookie sheet. Let stand until set.
  • In small bowl, mix remaining 2 3/4 cups frosting and the food color. Pipe frosting onto cupcakes. Top each with cake ball. Use melted candy to attach horns and candy eyes to cake balls. Insert wings into frosting.

This is a fun cookie to make. My kids love it. And just in time for Halloween.

7 oz half package green meltable candy wafers
1 pkg nutter butter cookies
1 can(s) cashew halves

Steps:

  • 1. Follow instructions on candy wafers pkg. to melt wafters in a wide bowl.
  • 2. For each Goblin foot hold edge of cookie and dip into melted candy. Place on wax paper. Use a spoon to smooth over spot where fingers were.
  • 3. Let cookie stand for 1 min. and add 3 cashew halves on the cookie for claws. Let cookies set to room temp.

1 pound ground beef
1 can (16 ounces) refried beans
1 envelope taco seasoning
1/4 cup salsa
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
3/4 cup sliced ripe olives, divided
4 tubes (13.8 ounces each) refrigerated pizza crust
2 large egg whites, lightly beaten
3 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat 6-8 minutes or until no longer pink, breaking into crumbles; drain., In a large bowl, combine beans, taco seasoning and salsa. Stir in beef, cheddar cheese and 1/4 cup olives., On a lightly floured surface, unroll one pizza crust; cut into 25 circles with a 2-in. biscuit or round cookie cutter. Repeat with remaining pizza dough. Reroll scraps to form 50 balls., Place 1 heaping tablespoon beef mixture on the center of half of the circles. Top with remaining circles; pinch edges to seal. Place on parchment paper-lined baking sheets; gently shape into ghosts. Brush with egg whites; press two dough balls into sides to form arms. Sprinkle with Monterey Jack cheese; top each with sliced olives for the eyes and mouths., Bake 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is melted
