GIRL SCOUT STEW, "BOO'S" FAVORITE

Girl Scout Stew,

Through the years I have had many girls in my units in camp, and "Boo" was a PA (program aide) several years. She requested to be in my unit her last year as a PA, and asked me to make this recipe in camp. She gave me her favorite recipe, and I have to admit it is pretty good! Just don't let the girls add pineapple or fruit...

Number Of Ingredients 2

3 lb hamburger, cooked at home, drained well
1 can(s) veggies from each girl, undrained

Steps:

  • 1. We put the hamburger into a Dutch Oven and heated. Each girl can dump their undrained can of veggies into the pot. Warm through and serve.
  • 2. You get a lot of different veggies brought into camp, so each time this is made, you get a little different flavor.
  • 3. I like to add onion to just about everything, so I add to the hamburger. It is also good with chopped green peppers fried with the hamburger and onions. There is no seasoning added, so feel free to add what you want.

CAMPFIRE STEW

Campfire Stew image

This is a meal that we used to eat a lot as kids, because it was inexpensive. My mother originally learned it from the Girl Scouts. The sodium can be a little high, but feel free to try one of the lower sodium vegetable soups. Also, instead of making the mashed potatoes from scratch, I now use the Ore-Ida steam and Mash. What a time saver!
