GERMAN OAT CAKE
An old recipe from my recipe files from the 1960's.

Steps:
- 1. In a medium mixing bowl pour the boiling water over the oats. Add butter and chocolate. Let stand 20 minutes. Blend well.
- 2. In a large mixing bowl mix together flour, sugar, soda and salt. Stir in brown sugar.
- 3. Add eggs and oat mixture. Beat at low speed until just well blended.
- 4. Pour into a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan.
- 5. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes.
- 6. For topping mix brown sugar, butter and cream in a small pot. Bring to a boil while stirring. Reduce heat and simmer 2 - 3 minutes until slightly thickened.
- 7. Add pecans. Spread topping evenly over the hot cake.
- 8. Broil 4-5 inches from heat for 1 minute or until bubbly. Serve warm or cold.

- Sift together flour, soda, and salt.
- Add brown sugar, eggs, and oatmeal mixture to dry ingredients.
- Bake in a 9x13 inch pan for 25-35 minutes.
- Frost while hot with topping.
- Topping:.
- Boil butter, cream, and brown sugar for 2-3 minutes; pour over warm cake.
- Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
