CAJUN FIRECRACKER CRACKERS

I'm not big on "spicy" foods but this is so addicting I can't eat enough.

1 box club crackers
1 1/2 Tbsp crushed red peppers
1 Tbsp cayenne pepper
1 pkg ranch dressing mix
1 1/2 c canola oil

Steps:

  • 1. Mix crushed red peppers, cayenne, ranch dressing and oil together.
  • 2. Put crackers in a 2 gallon bag or a large container.
  • 3. Pour oil mixture over crackers and shake gently to cover crackers.
  • 4. Turn bag/container over every 15 mins for 2 hours. (gently shake)
  • 5. Remove crackers from bag and put in air tight container.
  • 6. I think they taste best the next day!!!

These spicy crackers are great with a salad, dips, or chili!

1 ½ cups canola oil
2 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes
1 (1 ounce) packet ranch dressing mix
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 (16 ounce) package Whole Wheat Saltine Crackers

Steps:

  • Whisk the canola oil, crushed red pepper flakes, ranch dressing mix, and chili powder together in a bowl.
  • Divide the saltine crackers evenly into 2 1-gallon-sized sealable bags. Pour the oil mixture evenly over the crackers. Seal the bag and flip to allow the oil mixture to run over the crackers for 5 minutes; flip again. Repeat the flipping every five minutes to evenly coat the crackers for about 1 hour. Remove the crackers from the bags and spread onto large platters. Allow to sit overnight before serving.

Even Ritz crackers will work in place of saltines. Most recipes of this type don't mention crisping in the oven but you can always add that step. Spread crackers on a cookie sheet and bake at 250 degrees for 15-20 minutes, stirring around about halfway through.

1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 (1 ounce) envelope ranch dressing mix
2 -3 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes
1 (16 ounce) package saltine crackers (can use multigrain)

Steps:

  • Whisk together the oil, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and powdered Ranch Dressing mix.
  • Place crackers in a gallon freezer bag.
  • Pour mixture over crackers and shake well careful not to break up the crackers.
  • Let stand for about 15 minutes, turning over every so often.
  • Store in airtight container.
