Number Of Ingredients 7

4 cups celery, sliced in 1-inch pieces
1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts, chopped
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of chicken soup
1/4 cup pimiento, diced
1/2 cup soft breadcrumbs
1/4 cup almonds, sliced
3 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Bring a small amount of salted water to a boil.
  • Add your sliced celery.(I cut it on the bias)Cook for no more than 8 minutes. You want it to stay crunchy.
  • Drain and combine with the pimentos, soup, and water chestnuts.
  • Place in a sprayed 9x9 casserole.
  • Combine the breadcrumbs, almonds and melted butter and sprinkle over the top.
  • Bake at 350F 20 minute until it bubbles.
  • PS: If you can buy PANKO(Asian Breadcrumbs), use those instead of the soft breadcrumbs.
  • The recipe is very old, and Pankowas not available.

I never liked raw celery, largely due to the strings! I do, however, enjoy the taste of celery in soups and things. This casserole Mom made is full of that softened celery flavor, combined with crunchy water chestnuts. It makes this a favorite, and very easy to make often.

4 cup(s) celery, cut in 1" pieces
2 tablespoon(s) butter
1 can(s) cream of chicken soup
10 ounce(s) can of water chestnuts
1/2 cup(s) breadcrumbs
1/4 cup(s) slivered almonds, toasted

Steps:

  • Boil celery in small amount of water 8 minutes. Drain and mix in water chestnuts. Add soup, mix well. Put into a casserole, top with bread crumbs and butter. Add almonds. Bake at 350 degrees 35 minutes.

2 cup(s) celery, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
1 can(s) water chestnuts, sliced and drained
1 can(s) cream of mushroom soup
- buttered bread crumbs

Steps:

  • Cook celery in 2 cups of salted water until tender, drain. Add water chestnuts and soup; mix well. Pour into well-greased casserole. Top with buttered bread crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Makes 4 servings.

1 large bunch of celery--4 cups, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 can (5 oz) sliced water chestnuts, drained
1 can (10 oz) cream of chicken soup
1/4 cup pimentos, drained and chopped
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1/2 cup bread crumbs
butter

Steps:

  • Cook celery in salted boiling water for 8 minutes. Drain. In 1 quart casserole dish, mix celery, water chestnuts, soup and pimentos. Brown almonds in butter. Add bread crumbs to almonds and sprinkle on top of casserole for the last 10 minutes of cooking. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes.
