Not traditional by any stretch. If you want to make this even quicker, use store-bought mashed potatoes from the refrigerated section of your local grocery store instead of mashing your own. If you've never made mashed potatoes, give Recipe #443432 a try.

5 potatoes, peeled and quartered
1 lb lean ground beef
1 (4 1/2 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
1 (15 ounce) can mixed vegetables, drained (Veg-All works well)
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can condensed cream of celery soup
salt and pepper
3 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Coat a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add peeled and quartered potatoes and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and make mashed potatoes in your favorite fashion, then set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef until brown. Drain. Stir in mushrooms, mixed vegetables, mushroom soup, celery soup, salt and pepper and heat through. Pour into prepared baking dish.
  • Cover the beef mixture with the mashed potatoes. Dot the top with butter.
  • Bake in preheated oven 30 minutes, until potatoes are golden, and mixture is hot and bubbly.

1 cup beef gravy

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Brown meat in large skillet. Meanwhile, mix potatoes, cream cheese, 1/2 cup of the shredded cheese and the garlic until well blended.
  • Drain meat. Return to skillet; stir in vegetables and gravy. Spoon into 9-inch square baking dish; cover with potato mixture and remaining 1/2 cup shredded cheese.

1 pound ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
2 cups frozen corn, thawed
2 cups frozen peas, thawed
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules
1/2 cup cold water
1/2 cup sour cream
3-1/2 cups mashed potatoes (prepared with milk and butter)
3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the corn, peas, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and garlic. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook for 5 minutes., Combine the cornstarch, bouillon and water until well blended; stir into beef mixture. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir until thickened, 2 minutes. Stir in sour cream and heat through (do not boil)., Spread mashed potatoes over the top; sprinkle with cheese. Cover and cook until potatoes are heated through and cheese is melted. Freeze option: Prepare beef mixture as directed but do not add sour cream. Freeze cooled meat mixture in a freezer container. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Heat through in a large skillet, stirring occasionally and adding a little water if necessary. Stir in sour cream and proceed as directed.

1 cup sour cream

1 can (16 ounces) whole kernel corn, drained
1/2 cup milk

Chopped fresh parsley, optional

while i was in Afghanistan i thought that i would try and make a new dish. the dish that i made was told me to be shepards pie. if i could make it in a 3rd world country you can do it as well. forgive me this is a raw recipe ive never measured amounts at all.

5 lbs potatoes, washed and peeled
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup milk (or as much as needed to make creamy mashed potatoes)
2 lbs ground beef
1 onion, peeled and chopped
1 cup mixed vegetables
1 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon liquid smoke
1/8 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 cups cheddar cheese
salt
pepper
garlic powder

Steps:

  • Cut the potatoes in chunks and boil until tender; reserve half of the chunks and mash the rest with a little butter and milk.
  • while the potatoes are cooking, cook ground beef and onions over medium-medium high heat.
  • when the meat is cooked, drain the fat.
  • add the liquid smoke, worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and garlic powder (to taste).
  • take some of the potato chunks and make a bed of them in a buttered casserole dish.
  • spread the ground beef mixture over the top of the potatoes.
  • Spread mashed potatoes on top of the ground beef.
  • cover with cheese and sprinkle with parsley flakes; bake for 10 minutes.
