10 ripe pears, quartered and cut into large pieces, skin on
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 tsp all spice
1/4 tsp fresh ground nutmeg
1-2 tsp of homemade vanilla (to your liking)
1 tbsp fresh-squeezed lemon juice

Steps:

  • Place pears, sugar, all spice and nutmeg into slow cooker and mix. Turn on high and cook for 4 -5 hours, until pear pieces are very soft. Once cooked, cool enough to mix with immersion blender, or pour into regular blender. Blend to desired texture. Add vanilla and lemon juice. Mix thoroughly. Pour into jars to store in fridge or freezer.

8 Medium-Sized Pears* (cubed, cores and stems removed)
½ Cup Granulated Sweetener (or preferred granulated sugar)
1/2 Cup Dark Brown Sugar Sweetener (or preferred dark brown sugar)
1 1/2 Tsp Cinnamon
1/2 Tsp Allspice
1/2 Tsp Ground Cloves
1 Tsp Lemon Juice
1 Tsp Pure Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Extract

Steps:

  • Place the cubed pears in a greased large slow cooker and put the rest of the ingredients right on top of the pears.
  • Cover and cook on high for 4 hours, no mixing required at this time.
  • After 4 hours, remove the lid and mash the pears a bit before carefully transferring into a large blender. Blend the mixture until completely smooth, about 30 seconds.
  • Add the mixture back into the slow cooker with the cover slightly ajar and cook on high for another 3-4 hours until thick, mixing every 30 minutes or so. (It thickens more after cooking as it cools).
  • Allow it to cool a bit before storing in glass jars and refrigerating for 3-4 weeks.

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cinnamon stick (3 inches)
4-5 star anise points (about 1/2 whole)
5 pounds pears, peeled and chopped (about 12 cups)
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest

Steps:

  • Place spices on a double thickness of cheesecloth. Gather corners of cloth to enclose spices; tie securely with string. In a 5- or 6-qt. slow cooker, toss remaining ingredients. Add spice bag, covering with pears., Cook, covered, on low 5-6 hours or until pears are tender. Remove spice bag., Puree pear mixture using an immersion blender. Or, cool slightly and puree mixture in a blender in batches; return to slow cooker., Cook, uncovered, on high 1-2 hours or until mixture is thickened to desired consistency, stirring occasionally. Store cooled pear butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 1 week. Freeze option: Freeze cooled pear butter in freezer containers up to 3 months. Liquids expand as they freeze, so leave extra room at the top of the freezer container. To use, thaw in refrigerator.

I was looking for something sugar free to have with cream cheese on a low carb slice of bread. I wanted something with fiber and spices. This is what I came up with.

Number Of Ingredients 7

7 -8 large ripe pears, chopped
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 dash clove
1/4 teaspoon cardamom
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup Splenda sugar substitute
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • Place pears in pan with no added liquid.
  • Cook until soft.
  • Mash.
  • Put thru a ricer or sieve and discard seeds and skin.
  • Add spices and lemon juice and return to stove.
  • Cook until no liquid runs off when a small amount is placed on a dish. Remove from heat.
  • Add vanilla and splenda.
  • Can or place in a container and refrigerate.

3 large chopped peeled pears
½ cup white sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Place pears in a food processor or blender; puree until smooth.
  • Measure 3 cups pureed pears into a saucepan. Add sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, until bubbling, about 15 minutes. Stir in cinnamon. Cook, stirring frequently, until thick, about 15 minutes more.
  • Immerse a 1-pint jar in simmering water for 5 minutes. Wash lid and ring in warm soapy water. Fill hot jar with pear mixture. Seal and store in the refrigerator.
