EASY CHERRY (OR APPLE) CHEESE DANISH

Easy Cherry (Or Apple) Cheese Danish image

This is adopted from a Lucky Leaf recipe. It is SO easy and so good! I've served it at many functions and it goes fast! I haven't tried other fruit fillings but I'm sure blueberry would work too. Refrigerate remaining pieces.

Cream cheese mixture:
Ready made Puff Pastry (1 sheet)
Cherry pie filling (or fruit of choice)
Half block of cream cheese (4oz)
1 Tbs sugar
vanilla extract (few drops)
lemon juice (just a splash)
Soften the cream cheese in the microwave for 10 seconds and mix in the sugar, vanilla, and lemon. The amounts are really just to taste.
Drizzle icing:
1 cup of powdered sugar
2-3 tsp orange juice or until you get the right consistency.

Steps:

  • I cut the sheet of pastry into 9 squares. Then spread the cream cheese mixture on a diagonal. Added a few cherries... And pulled the opposite corners up and pinched them together. Brush with a bit of egg wash and bake at 400-425 until golden brown, about 15 minutes in my oven. Pour a cup of coffee and enjoy. These would be great for a brunch table, too!

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 1/2 c sugar
1/2 c butter, softened
1/2 c crisco
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp almond extract
4 eggs
3 c flour
1 can(s) cherry pie filling
GLAZE
2 c confectioners sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp butter, softened
1 Tbsp milk

Steps:

  • 1. Lightly grease a jelly roll pan. Blend the following ingredients with a mixer: sugar, butter, shortening, baking powder, vanilla, almond extract and eggs. If you aren't in the habit of keeping almond extract around, just replace it with vanilla. If a little vanilla is good, more is better! Blend on low, then turn up the mixer to high for 3 minutes.
  • 2. Add the flour and blend by hand. Spread 2/3 of the batter in the jelly roll pan. Spread the pie filling over the batter and then, drop the remaining batter by spoonfuls onto the pie filling.
  • 3. Bake for 35-40 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Don't let it brown too much! While the cake is still slightly warm, drizzle with glaze.
  • 4. Directions for Glaze
  • 5. 1 Mix the confectioners' sugar, butter, and vanilla together.
  • 6. 2 Adding half the milk (or orange juice) to start with, stir in to make a thick glaze, adding just a drop at a time more until you get a nice thick glaze.
  • 7. 3 Spread or pour immediately over warm Danish.

EASY BRAIDED CHERRY CHEESE DANISH

Easy Braided Cherry Cheese Danish image

A quick and easy recipe for braided Cherry Cheese Danish made with crescent rolls that your family will love! The filling in this danish is super easy to make, and it's versatile! Instructions include how to make a plain cheese danish, or how to add in options like cherries.

Provided by @MakeItYours

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 tube Pillsbury Crescent Recipe Creations - Seamless Dough Sheet (you can also use a tube of regular crescent rolls, but you will need to pinch the seams together. The seamless dough sheet is much easier to work with and most grocery stores sell i
1 - 8 ounce package cream cheese softened
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup to 3/4 cup cherry pie filling (you can also use any preserves or jelly of your choice, or omit this altogether for a delicious plain cheese danish)
1 cup powdered sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees. Spray a large rimmed baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray. With your mixer, beat together an 8 ounce package of cream cheese with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1 tablespoons vanilla extract. Beat until smooth. Unroll a seamless dough sheet onto the baking sheet. On each long side of the dough, make 2 inch long cuts about 1 inch apart using a sharp knife, pizza cutter, or kitchen scissors. Spread the cheese filling down the middle of the dough. If adding fruit, spread about 1/2 cup (or more if you wish) of cherry pie filling on top of the cheese layer. Starting at one end, fold the strips over the filling on an angle alternating from one side to the other. This will give it the braided look. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the danish is golden brown. While the danish is baking, make the icing. In a medium sized bowl whisk together powdered sugar with 3 tablespoons milk and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Allow the danish to cool for 10-15 minutes before drizzling the icing over the danish. I poured the icing in a ziplock bag, snipped the tip, and piped the icing over the danish. Alternatively, you could dip a fork in the icing and drizzle it over the danish. Cut into slices and enjoy!

Flour for dusting
3 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 cup canned cherry pie filling
1/3 cup confectioners' sugar
2 teaspoons milk
1 tablespoon sliced almonds (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray.

Lay each slice on the baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between pieces. Using the bottom of a drinking glass, flatten each slice. Lightly dust each with flour and using your fingers (lightly flour them), build up the edges slightly. The center of each Danish should be flattened slightly so that each looks like a shallow bowl.
  • In a medium bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed, beat cream cheese, granulated sugar, and almond extract until smooth. Evenly dollop mixture in center of each Danish, then top each with a teaspoonful of cherry pie filling.
  • Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden. Remove to a cooling rack to cool slightly.
  • In a small bowl, whisk confectioners' sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle over each Danish and top with sliced almonds, if desired.
