I just happened to see this Double Chocolate Coca Cola Cake recipe on facebook from an old school friend. Her mother use to make this cake when we were kids and I remembered way back then when she brought it over for us to try. It was so good and brought back happy memories.

Number Of Ingredients 17

1 c coca-cola (not diet)
1/2 c cooking oil
1 stick butter
3 Tbsp cocoa
2 c sugar
2 c plain flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
1/2 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla.
frosting ingredients
1 stick butter
2 1/3 Tbsp cocoa
6 Tbsp cream or milk
1 tsp vanilla
3 3/4 c confectioners sugar

Steps:

  • 1. In a saucepan mix cola, oil, butter and cocoa and bring to boil. In bowl combine sugar, flour and salt. Pour the Cola mixture over the flour mixture and beat well.
  • 2. Add eggs, buttermilk, baking soda and vanilla and beat well. Pour mixture into a greased and floured 13x9 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • 3. Frosting: In a saucepan, combine butter, cocoa, and milk. Heat until butter melts. Beat in remaining ingredients and spread on cake while still warm.

I had a neighbor that baked this cake and I loved it. I hadn't had it for years and found it at the Cracker Barrel. I love the moistness of the cake and the creamy luscious frosting.

1 c coke (regular not diet)
1/2 c oil
1 stick butter
3 Tbsp cocoa
2 c sugar
2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
1/2 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
FROSTING
1 stick butter
3 Tbsp cocoa
6 Tbsp cream or milk
1 tsp vanilla
3 3/4 c powdered sugar
1/2 c chopped walnuts (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Cake In pan, mix coke, oil, butter, and cocoa and bring to a boil. In separate bowl, combine sugar, flour and salt. Pour boiling coke mix over flour mix and beat well. Add eggs, buttermilk, soda and vanilla and beat well. Pour into greased and floured 9X13 pan. Bake @ 350 for 35 - 40 minutes or until it bounces back when you tap it with a finger. Remove and let cool 10 minutes before 10 frosting.
  • 2. Frosting In saucepan, combine butter, cocoa and milk (or cream). Heat until butter melts. Beat in remaining ingredients and spread on warm cake.
  • 3. Add chopped walnuts if desired

CAKE:
1 c coca cola, regular
1/2 c oil
1 stick butter, softened
3 Tbsp cocoa powder
2 c sugar
2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
1/2 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
FROSTING:
1 stick butter
3 Tbsp cocoa powder
3 oz whipping cream
1 tsp vanilla
3 3/4 c confectioners sugar

Steps:

  • 1. CAKE: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 13 x 9 inch baking pan.
  • 2. In a saucepan, mix Coca Cola, oil, butter and cocoa and bring to a boil. In another bowl, combine the sugar, flour and salt. Pour the boiling Cola mixture over the flour mixture and beat well. Add the eggs, buttermilk, soda and vanilla and beat well.
  • 3. Spread mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 25 to 45 minutes or until it springs back in the middle when lightly touched with your finger. Remove pan from oven. Prepare frosting while allowing cake to cool for about 10 minutes before frosting.
  • 4. FROSTING: Frosting: In a saucepan, combine the butter, cocoa, and milk. Heat until the butter melts. Beat in the remaining ingredients and spread on the cake while it's still warm. Enjoy!
