BROWNIE MOCHA TRIFLE

Brownie Mocha Trifle image

By using instant pudding and a convenient box of brownie mix, there's nothing to the preparation. The result is moist and chewy. And the layers look so pretty spooned into a glass trifle bowl. -Louise Fauth, Foremost, Alberta

DEATH BY CHOCOLATE IN A TRIFLE BOWL :)

Death by Chocolate in a Trifle Bowl :) image

When our daughter played basketball one of the mom's brought this to a dinner and I have been making it ever since. You can also use your favorite candy bar ie: butterfinger etc. I also put it in a trifle bowl and it's the hit of the party.

Time 40m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 pepperidge farm frozen chocolate cake
2 (15 3/4 ounce) cans chocolate pudding (I use thank you brand)
2 (16 ounce) cartons Cool Whip
6 crushed Heath candy bars

Steps:

  • First, cut the frozen cake into squares.
  • I first cut the cake into half and it's easier this way.
  • Take 1/2 of the cake that you cut into squares and place them in the bottom of the trifle bowl.
  • Put 1 can of the pudding on top of the cake then spread 1 carton of the cool whip on top of the pudding.
  • I put the candy bars in a ziploc bag and crush with a rolling pin, put 1/2 of the candy mixture on top of the cool whip.
  • Then put the remaining cake, pudding, cool whip and top with remaining candy bars on top.
  • This needs a warning, very addictive.

DEATH BY CHOCOLATE TRIFLE RECIPE - (4.3/5)

Death by Chocolate Trifle Recipe - (4.3/5) image

Provided by davidv

Number Of Ingredients 12

Grilled Strawberries:
2 lbs strawberries, hulled and halved
Juice of 1 lemon
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup strawberry preserves
Trifle:
2-1/2 cups whole milk
1/4 cup cold strong coffee
2 (3.9-oz) packages chocolate fudge instant pudding mix
1 (16-oz) container whipped topping, divided
1 lb chocolate cake, cut into 1" pieces
1 (14.3-oz) package Oreos, crumbled

Steps:

  • To prepare the grilled strawberries, preheat an outdoor grill over high heat. Place the halved strawberries, lemon juice, and sugar in a medium-size bowl. Toss until the strawberries are fully coated and then place them in a nonstick grill pan. Cook for 5-6 minutes, tossing constantly. Place the berries back into the bowl and add the strawberry preserves. Mix until evenly combined. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours, or until completely cold. To prepare the pudding, whisk together the milk, coffee, and the packages of instant pudding in a large bowl until the mixture is thick. Fold in half of the whipped topping until fully incorporated. Press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the pudding to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until completely cold. Use a large trifle bowl to assemble the trifle. Place 1/3 of the chocolate cake pieces into the bowl followed by 1/3 of the pudding mixture, 1/3 of the grilled strawberries, and 1/3 of the remaining whipped topping. End with 1/3 of the crushed Oreos. Repeat this process 2 more times, finishing with the whipped topping and crushed Oreos. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Categories     Dessert

Time 2h25m

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 box Betty Cooker™ devil's food cake mix
Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
1 cup coffee-flavored liqueur
4 boxes (3 to 4 oz each) instant chocolate mousse mix
Milk called for on chocolate mousse mix boxes
4 cups whipped cream
6 full-size Snickers™ candy bars, crushed

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Make and bake cake mix as directed on box for 13x9-inch pan. Cool 5 minutes. Use fork to poke cake all over.
  • Drizzle liqueur over cake. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours but no longer than 12 hours.
  • Meanwhile, make chocolate mousse as directed on box. Cover and refrigerate until cake is ready.
  • To assemble, crumble one-fourth to one-third of cake into bottom of very large trifle or punch bowl. I like to use a punch bowl, which is typically much bigger than your typical trifle bowl.

DEATH BY CAFFEINE (MOCHA TRIFLE)

Death by Caffeine (Mocha Trifle) image

This recipe is from the book, "Devil's Food Cake Murder", by Joanne Fluke

Provided by Tam D @methodmaven

Categories     Cakes

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 cup(s) sponge cake
1 cup(s) strong coffee or espresso, cooled
16 ounce(s) whipped cream topping (6 cups)
1/4 cup(s) coffee liqueur
2 tablespoon(s) chocolate liqueur
12 ounce(s) chocolate yogurt
3/4 cup(s) mini chocolate chips
3/4 cup(s) chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Cut the sponge cake into half inch cubes (doesn't have to be perfect). Place the cake cubes in a large bowl and pour the cooled coffee evenly over the cubes. Toss to distribute and coat the cubes.
  • Combine the dairy topping, yogurt, and liqueurs in another bowl. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl toss the chips and the nuts. Set aside.
  • To assemble the trifle use a trifle bowl or any pretty bowl(see-through is best) that will hold about 12 cups.
  • Place 1/3 of the cake cubes in the bottom of the bowl. Top that with 1/3 of the whipped topping mixture. Sprinkle 1/3 of the chip and nut mixture over that.
  • Repeat the layers two more times.
  • Chill at least 3 hours before serving. Garnish with chocolate curls or chocolate covered espresso beans, more mini chocolate chips, or even fresh berries.
  • NOTES: 1) You can make your own sponge cake if you like, or simply buy one from the bakery or store. If you can't find one, you can use the bar cake or little dessert cups used for strawberry shortcake (it will take 10 of the little cups to make 6c. cut up) 2) Make your own sweetened whipped cream with 3 c. chilled whipping cream, beat to soft peaks, then gradually beat in 1/2 c. sugar, until sugar is dissolved (rub a bit between your fingers). Or use something like Cool Whip REAL Whipped Cream. 3) If you can't find chocolate yogurt use vanilla, and mix in 2 T. of chocolate sauce or syrup. 4) Liqueurs used were Starbucks Cappuccino (coffee), and Godiva (chocolate). I like Tia Maria, Kahlua, and Bailey's brands liqueurs, but whatever you have will work. 5) You can make this dessert even more elegant by layering in individual dessert dishes.
