This is the frosting for my recipe recipe #384594 I'm posting it seperately for everyone who needs a creamy, delicious chocolate buttercream frosting for their favorite cake.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/3 cup butter
1 cup semisweet chocolate, mini-morsels (Nestles)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
5 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • In small saucepan, melt butter. Stir in mini-morsels until melted.
  • Add salt and vanilla.
  • Gradually beat in confectioner's sugar and milk until creammy and fluffy. I beat this for a good 10 minutes. The longer you beat it, the creamier it gets.
  • Makes enough to fill and frost 2 layers (about 2 1/4 cups of frosting).

My mother taught me this recipe many many years ago and it's the best chocolate frosting I've ever tasted. The half and half makes it extra rich! 10-12-2016

2/3 c cocoa, unsweetened
1 stick butter, melted
3 c powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 c half and half

Steps:

  • 1. In a medium bowl, stir cocoa into melted butter and blend thoroughly.
  • 2. Add powdered sugar and half and half, alternately, into cocoa mixture, beating until spreading consistency. Add the vanilla.
  • 3. Add more half and half if needed to reach proper consistency. Frost completely cooled cake or cupcakes. Makes about 2 cups frosting.

I found this in a cookbook I bought at a yard sale a few weeks ago and made it to frost a marble cake. It was really creamy and rich, just as the recipe stated. I doubled the recipe because I like a really thick layer of frosting but you could just make it as is and you would still have enough to frost a layer cake. If stored in refrigerator bring to room tempature before serving.

1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar

  • Gradually beat in confectioners sugar and milk until of spreading consistency.

Granddaughter had a made a chocolate cake earlier and when the cake cooled, she goes, "Grandma we have no frosting!" So Grandma to the rescue for this rich chocolate frosting for the cake.

2 3/4 cup(s) confectioners' sugar
6 tablespoon(s) cocoa powder
6 tablespoon(s) butter, room temperature
5 tablespoon(s) milk
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Mix sugar and cocoa together stir well. In seperate bowl cream butter milk and vanilla extract together. Once blended add dry ingredients and blend with mixer on slow speed. If necessary, adjust the consistency with the sugar and/or milk.
