- In a large saucepan, combine the first nine ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Serve in mugs; top with butter.

- Cut tangerines crosswise into 1/4" rounds; remove seeds. Bring to a simmer juice, tangerines, cloves, and sugar, covered. Simmer 5 min. Stir in rum. Serve in heatproof glasses with 1 slice tangerine in each.
