Only 6 ingredients to make these tasty bars! A favorite at this house. Raisins could easily be substitued or maybe craisins.

Steps:
- In a mixing bowl, combine dry cake mix and brown sugar.
- Add butter, and eggs.
- Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed.
- Stir in the dates and nuts.
- Spread into a greased 9 x 13" baking pan.
- Bake at 350° for 35-45 minutes or until edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
BEST EVER DATE BARS
Date bars are so good! This recipe is from an old cookbook of my mom's,(McCall's or Betty Crocker) and is a fond memory of my childhood. The index card I'm copying it from is one of the most stained in my collection. So trust me! You'll love these!

Steps:
- For filling, combine all filling ingredients except for nuts in medium sized saucepan.
- Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally til thickened.
- Cool.
- Stir in nuts.
- For base, sift together flour, soda and salt.
- Add oats and sugar.
- Mix well.
- Stir in butter.
- Mix til crumbly.
- Press 2/3 of mixture into greased 8" square pan.
- Spread filling evenly over flour mixture.
- Top with remaining mixture.
- Pack light.
- Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes.
- Cool completely!(Very important).
- Cut into bars.

- Heat oven to 350°F. Spray bottom and sides of 9-inch square baking pan. In medium saucepan, combine dates and orange juice. Cook over medium-low heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in brown sugar; gently simmer an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in pecans. Set aside.
- In large bowl, stir cookie mix and melted butter with fork until mixture is crumbly. Press 2/3 of mixture into bottom of pan. Pour date mixture over crust in pan. Sprinkle with remaining cookie mixture.
- Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely, about 2 hours. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. For bars, cut into 5 rows by 4 rows. Store covered at room temperature.

- Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Spray bottom and sides of 15x10x1-inch pan with baking spray with flour.
- In large bowl, beat cake mix, oats, butter, orange peel and eggs with electric mixer on medium speed about 1 minute or until batter is thick. Stir in dates and walnuts. Spread in pan.
- Bake 22 to 26 minutes or until top is golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on cooling rack 10 minutes. Run knife around sides of pan to loosen bars. Cool completely, about 1 hour 30 minutes. For bars, cut into 8 rows by 6 rows. Store covered.

- Date Filling: Mix 3 cups chopped dates (1 lb.) with 1/4 cup sugar and 1 1/2 cups water in saucepan.
- Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, about 10 minutes or until thickened; Cool.
- Grease 13x9 baking pan.
- Crust Mixture: Cream butter, shortening, and brown sugar.
- Mix in remaining ingredients.
- Press half the mixture in bottom of pan.
- Spread with filling.
- Top with remaining crumble mixture, pressing lightly.
- Bake at 400°F 25 to 30 minutes or until light brown.
- While warm, cut into bars about 2 inches X 1 1/2 inches.

Grease a 9x13-inch pan with shortening. In a large bowl, stir brown sugar, and butter until well mixed. Stir in oats, baking soda, and salt until crumbly. Press half the mixture evenly in the bottom of the pan. Spread evenly with cooled filling. Top with remaining crumb mixture, press lightly. Bake 25 to 30 minutes until light brown.
