I created this recipe when I didn't have enough ingredients for another cookie recipe. I use this recipe on numerous occasions for teacher gifts and Christmas.-Shelley Friesen, Leduc, Alberta

Number Of Ingredients 13

1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS:
2/3 cup butter, softened
1 large egg
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. In a 1-qt. glass container, layer flour mixture, brown sugar, 1/2 cup chocolate chips, cranberries, walnuts, oats and remaining chips. Cover and store in a cool, dry place up to 6 months. Yield: 1 batch (about 4 cups total)., To prepare cookies: Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, beat butter, egg and vanilla until blended. Add cookie mix and mix well. , Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire racks.

LAYER THE FOLLOWING INGREDIENTS IN ORDER IN A 1-QUART WIDE MOUTH CANNING JAR:
3/4 c sugar
1/3 c cocoa powder
1/2 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 1/2 c dried crasins or cranberries
1 c chocolate chips
1 3/4 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 dash(es) salt

Steps:

  • 1. Remember to press firmly between each layer. Place lid and ring onto jar. Attach the following recipe on a gift tag: Chocolate Cranberry Cookies: Empty jar of cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Add 1 1/2 sticks butter or margarine, 1 egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until completely blended. Shape into balls and place 2 inches apart on sprayed baking sheets. Bake at 375 degrees F for 13-15 minutes.
  • 2. NOTE: mix flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder together before adding to jar

This is posted in response to a request and I have not yet made it. The recipe comes from the "Gifts for the Cookie Jar" cookbook. Times are guesstimates to assemble the jar mix. Substitute a different dried fruit for a different taste.

2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup dried sweetened cranberries or 3/4 cup fruit
3/4 cup mini chocolate chip
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
3/4 cup salad oil
sugar

Steps:

  • *JarMix Instructions*.
  • In medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt, stirring to mix well.
  • In 1-qt jar, place half of the flour mixture and press down firmly.
  • Place cranberries in jar and then cover with chocolate chips.
  • Place remaining flour mixture over chocolate chips.
  • Place lid on jar.
  • *PreparationInstructions*.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Empty contents of jar into large mixing bowl.
  • Add vanilla, eggs and oil.
  • Beat on low speed until thoroughly blended (dough may be crumbly).
  • Shape into 1 1/2-inch balls and roll in sugar.
  • Place 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, until very lightly browned edges.
  • Cool for 1 minute and transfer to cooling rack.

  • In a 1-qt. glass jar, layer the sugar and brown sugar, packing well between each layer. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; spoon into jar. Top with oats, cranberries and chips. Cover and store in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months., To prepare cookies: Pour cookie mix into a large bowl; stir to combine. Beat in butter, egg and vanilla. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. , Drop by the tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 8-10 minutes or until browned. ½ cup rolled oats
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
⅓ cup packed brown sugar
⅓ cup white sugar
½ cup dried cranberries
½ cup white chocolate chips
½ cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Layer the ingredients in a 1 quart or 1 liter jar, in the order listed.
  • Attach a tag with the following instructions: Cranberry Hootycreeks 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a cookie sheet or line with parchment paper. 2. In a medium bowl, beat together 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla until fluffy. Add the entire jar of ingredients, and mix together by hand until well blended.   • Attach a tag with the following instructions: Chocolate Cookie Mix in a Jar: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) 2. Empty cookie mix into large bowl. Thoroughly blend mixture with hands. Mix in 3/4 cup softened butter or margarine, 1 egg, slightly beaten, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Shape into walnut size balls, and place 2 inches apart on a parchment lined baking sheet. 3. Bake for 11 to 13 minutes. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet, then move to wire racks.
