- Combine in small bowl and set aside. 1-1/2 cup applesauce 3 tsp baking soda Cream together: 3/4 cup brown sugar 3/4 cup sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1 cup shortening Add: 1 cup Amish friendship bread starter 1 egg
- Beat 2 minutes on medium speed. Add applesauce mix alternately with 4 1/2 C. flour and 1 tsp baking powder. Mix until well blended. Fold in 2 cups (12 oz.) of chocolate chips. Drop batter on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.

- Preheat oven to 375 degrees In a bowl, mix the butter until creamy. Slowly add the sugars. Keep mixing until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla. Mix well. Sift all the dry things and slowly add them. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop mixture from a teaspoon on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
