CAPE COD OATMEAL COOKIES

This recipe has been in my family for many, many years. My late mother heard this recipe given out on the radio one day years and years ago and she made them. They are delicious and I am forwarding the recipe to you because I am afraid it may otherwise become lost over time and I wish to share it with you.

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 ¾ cups rolled oats
1 cup white sugar
½ cup raisins
½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
½ cup chopped walnuts
½ cup melted shortening
½ cup melted butter
1 egg
¼ cup milk
1 tablespoon molasses

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In large bowl stir together flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt. Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Drop by teaspoon 1-1/2 inches apart on ungreased sheets (Make the cookies small). Bake for 12 minutes or until brown.

This recipe is from an old Fannie Farmer Cookbook I bought not long after I married. My Dad and my husband loved them so I would make them every year at Christmas and in-between. They are chewy and nourishing. Give them a try!

1 1/2 c flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 c sugar
1/2 c melted shortening
1/2 c melted butter
1 Tbsp molasses
1/4 c whole milk
1 3/4 c uncooked oatmeal
1/2 c raisins which have been soaked in vanilla to soften
1/2 c chopped nuts (i make with pecans - use your favorite)

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2. Mix the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt together in a large bowl. Stir in the remaining ingredients.
  • 3. Arrange by teaspoonfuls on unbuttered cookie sheets and bake until the edges are brown, about 12 minutes.

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 cup melted shortening
1 tablespoon molasses
1/4 cup milk
1 3/4 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350*.
  • In a medium sized bowl, sift together the flour, soda, salt and cinnamon.
  • In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients.
  • Incorporate flour mixture into oat mixture (with wooden spoon) until well blended.
  • Drop cookie dough by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for approx.
  • 12 minutes, or until the edges turn slightly brown.
  • Cool on wire racks.
  • Store in tightly covered container.

1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • Beat the egg, and add all the other ingredients. Mix well. Butter 2 large baking sheets. Bake 350 for 15 min. or so
