My college roommate took me home to her farm for a weekend visit back in 1962. This is a salad we had for dinner one night while I was there. It's been requested of me ever since then. It's a real tasty addition to any meal.

1 cup boiling water
1 (3 ounce) package cherry flavored Jell-O®
⅓ cup cinnamon red hot candies
¾ cup cold water
½ cup tart apples, diced
½ cup celery, chopped
½ cup walnuts, chopped

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, add boiling water to the cherry gelatin and stir to dissolve. Carefully add the cinnamon candies. Let them sit for a minute, then stir to dissolve the candies into the gelatin mixture. Once they are fully dissolved, add the cold water. Allow the mixture to sit for ten minutes to come to room temperature.
  • At room temperature, mix in the apples, celery, and walnuts. Pour gelatin mixture into a decorative mold or serving bowl and refrigerate overnight to set.

My grandmother gave me this recipe earlier today. I am not crazy about Apples, but loved this salad. I told my husband to hurry up and eat it before I eat too much. My grandmother told me it is like the candy apples at a fair, which I also am not crazy about, but this was the best salad ever! Hope you all enjoy.

4 cups Granny Smith apple - peeled, cored and chopped
½ cup white sugar
1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, with juice
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 cup coarsely chopped dry roasted peanuts

Steps:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together the egg, flour, sugar, vinegar and pineapple. Cook until thick, about 6 minutes. Set aside until completely cool.
  • In a large serving bowl, fold together the pineapple mixture and whipped topping. Carefully mix in the apples and 1/2 cup of peanuts. Sprinkle the remaining nuts on the top.

1 tablespoon butter
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon vinegar
6 cups apples, diced
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Mix butter, sugar and cornstarch.
  • Stir while pouring boiling water over it.
  • Bring mixture to a boil and thicken.
  • Cool.
  • Then add vanilla, vinegar and salt.

4-6 lg. apples chopped, skins on, about 6 c.

  • 1. Whisk milk and pudding for 2 mins. then let set for 2 mins. or till soft set. Fold in cool whip, apples, and candy bars. Cover and ref. till serving time. Note: I cut my candy bars in half lengthwise and then in small pieces.

2 granny smith apples
2 red delicious apples
3 snickers candy bars
1 c sugar
2 8oz pkgs. cream cheese room temperature
1 16oz cool whip thawed
1 c chopped pecans

Steps:

  • 1. Core and chop apples, leaving peeling on, into small bite size pieces. Chop candy bars into small bite size pieces. In medium bowl, mix sugar, cream cheese, cool whip and nuts together. Then add apples and candy stir well. Chill several hours or overnight.

1 box black cherry jello (large)
1 small bag of red hots cinnamon candy (8 or 10 ounces)
3 medium red delicious apples, cored, unpeeled
1 c chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • 1. Core apples, Chop.. leaving the peelings intact.
  • 2. Coarsley chop walnuts and set aside.
  • 3. Bring 1 1/2 cups of water to a boil. Pour in the Red Hots and boil until melted. Remove pan from heat and add in 1 1/2 cups cold water and the chopped apples. Refrigerate until thickened but not completely gelled.
  • 4. Add walnuts, pushing into the jello until covered. Return back to the refrigerator until set.... Serve and enjoy. If you can't find Black Cherry Jello, cherry works just as well.

1-2 bag(s) frozen (makes them easier to chop) fun size milky ways-depends on how much candy you want in yours, i usually use 2 bags
1 cup(s) milk
1-3oz box(es) instant vanilla pudding
1-8oz - container of cool whip

Steps:

  • Chop up apples into bite-size pieces and place in a large bowl.
  • In a Medium bowl, whisk pudding into milk for 2 minutes and then fold in the cool whip.
  • Chop up Milky Ways and add to apples and mix. Add Pudding mixture and stir until combined. Enjoy! :D
