These yams have been traditional on my Thanksgiving table for over 20 years. I wouldn't think of making them any other way.

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 (17 ounce) cans yams, well drained or 6 medium yams, cooked, peeled, and quartered
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 cup half-and-half
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
mini marshmallows (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Place yams in large baking dish. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in medium saucepan, combine corn syrup, sugar, half-and-half, butter, salt, and cinnamon. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil, and boil for 5 minutes. Pour over yams.
  • Bake, basting often, 15 minutes more.
  • (If you have to have marshmallows on your yams, sprinkle mini marshmallows over finished yams, and broil for 3 minutes or so, until melted and nicely browned.).

6 medium yams or 2 (17 oz) cans
1/2 c karo syrup (dark or light) ( i use light maple syrup)
1/2 c brown sugar ( i use splenda brown sugar)
1/4 c cream, canned
2 Tbsp margarine
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. arrange yams in single layer in 9x13 inch baking dish. in heavy 2 quart saucepan combine remaining ingredients. stirring constantly, bring to a boil.
  • 2. pour over yams and bake in 325 oven for 30 minutes, basting frequently.

6 medium yams, cooked not to mushy stage, peeled and sliced (or quartered)
1/2 cup light Karo syrup or 1/2 cup Dark Karo syrup
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 cup heavy cream or 1/4 cup half-and-half cream
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°.
  • Arrange cooked and chopped yams in a single layer in a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Combine remaining ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Stirring constantly, boil 5 minutes.
  • Pour over the cooked yams.
  • Bake 25-30 minutes, basting occasionally, until glazed.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Number Of Ingredients 3

Yams - about 5 large for small to medium side dish.
1 - 3.4oz box of Jell-O Butterscotch Instant Pudding.
1 stick of butter

Steps:

  • Preparation Cut yams into similar size pieces and boil till yams are tender. Do not overcook as they could become mushy. After yams are drained and have cooled pull off skin. Mash several yams with a fork into a buttered oven safe dish to form the first layer covering the bottom of the pan. Next, sprinkle some of the pudding mixture over the yams, then dot evenly with thin slices of butter to complete this layer. Continue this process for approximately two more layers. Cook at 350 for about 20 -30 minutes.

6 yams medium or sweet potatoes, peeled (about 2 lb.)
1/4 cup half and half
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/3 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg ground
1/4 cup pecans chopped

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan cover yams or sweet potatoes with boiling water. Over high heat bring to a boil reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes or until tender. Drain. Slice lengthwise and place in an ungreased 2-quart shallow baking dish in rows, overlapping slightly. Pour half-and-half evenly over potatoes and sprinkle with salt.Preheat oven to 350° F. In a small bowl combine brown sugar, butter or margarine, flour and nutmeg. Sprinkle over potatoes.Sprinkle with pecans. Bake for 15 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Broil 5 inches from heat source for 2 minutes or until golden.
