Garlic Butter Egg Noodles With Italian Style Bread Crumbs image

I just made this recipe up years ago. The bread crumbs and garlic powder bring alot of flavor to the egg noodles. It is one of my sons favorites.

Time 10m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (8 ounce) package egg noodles
1/2 cup butter (1 stick of butter)
1 -2 tablespoon garlic powder (I like garlic)
salt and pepper
1/2 cup progresso Italian style breadcrumbs

Steps:

  • Make the Egg Noodles and drain. Put them back in the pot and add the stick of butter and stir to melt.
  • Add the garlic powder and salt and pepper.
  • You can stop right there and have garlic buttered noodles -- but you can kick up the flavor like I do and add the Italian Style bread crumbs. Don't add to much or it can get dry because the bread crumbs soak up the butter.

Bread - I use white.
Noodles - about twice to three times as much as the bread.
Butter
Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Cook and drain the noodles. Cube or break up bread as for stuffing. I lightly toast mine first which help caramelize the sugar in the bread. Brown the bread in butter in a pot. You may have to add butter as it is absorbed Add the noodles to the bread and add milk, start small, to moisten the bread and cook to heat thoroughly, stirring often. You may have to add milk to keep it just on the moist side of dry. Add salt and pepper.

21/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon dry yeast
1 cup warm water
1 egg white beaten with 1 tablespoon water and 1/2 teaspoon salt
sesame seeds

Steps:

  • 1.) In a mixing bowl, blend the flour, salt, yeast, and warm water. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured board and knead it for 15 minutes. You may have to add extra flour to make a stiff more supple dough. Put it into an oiled mixing bowl, turning so that it is coated with the oil. Covered with plastic wrap and allow to rise ina warm place until it has doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. 2.) Punch down the dough. Return half to the bowl and take the other half to make into bread sticks. With a knife, cut the dought into 8 equal pieces. Using your palms, roll each piece into a cut the dough into a thin cylinder about 8 inches long. Cut each one in half and place them, 1 inch apart, on a oiled baking sheet. Let them sit for 20 minutes, until they just begin to soften in contour. Brush with the egg glaze, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 300 degress. The longer they cook, the crisper they will become 3.)Meanwhile, punch down the rest of the dough again. Run it through the pasta machine several times, dusting it with flour if it feels sticky. Begin to narrow the opening of the machine and continue until the dough is quite thin. Change the rollers and cut the dough into noodles. Lay them on a wooden board or dish towel to rise slightly while you bring a pot of water to boil. Drop the noodles into the boiling water. Test for doneness as soon as the water returns to the boil Drain in a colander and serve with a hearty meat-based sauce and a basket of sesame studded bread sticks
