Number Of Ingredients 12

1/2 cup dried green split peas
1/3 cup beef bouillon granules
1/4 cup medium pearl barley
1/2 cup dried lentils
1/4 cup dried minced onion
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1/2 cup uncooked long grain rice
1/2 cup uncooked alphabet pasta or other small pasta
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS:
1 pound ground beef (90% lean)
3 quarts water
1 can (28 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained

Steps:

  • In a 1-1/2-pint jar, layer the first seven ingredients in the order listed. Wrap pasta in a small sheet of plastic wrap; add to jar. Seal tightly. Store in a cool, dry place for up to 3 months., To prepare soup: Remove pasta from jar and set aside. In a Dutch oven over medium heat, cook the beef until no longer pink; drain. Add the water, tomatoes and soup mix; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 45 minutes. Stir in the reserved pasta; cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the pasta, peas, barley and lentils are tender.

1/2 cup dry Split Peas
1/3 cup beef bouillon granules
1/4 cup pearl barley
1/3 cup dry lentils
1/4 cup dried minced onion
2 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
1/2 cup uncooked Long Grain Rice
1/2 cup alphabet macaroni or other small macaroni
1 pound ground beef
3 quart water
1 can 28 ounces diced tomatoes

Steps:

  • In a 1 1/2 pint jar, layer the first eight ingredients in the order listed. Seal tightly. Yield 1 batch. To prepare soup, carefully remove macaroni from the top of the jar and set aside. In a large saucepan, or Dutch oven, brown beef; drain. Add the water tomatoes and soup mix. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 45 minutes. Add the reserved macaroni cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until the macaroni, peas, lentils, and barley are tender. Yields 4 quarts.

½ cup dry split peas
⅓ cup beef bouillon granules
¼ cup pearl barley
½ cup dry lentils
¼ cup dried onion flakes
2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
½ cup uncooked long-grain white rice
2 bay leaves
½ cup uncooked alphabet pasta

Steps:

  • In a 1 1/2 pint jar, layer the split peas, bouillon, barley, lentils, onion flakes, Italian seasoning, rice, and bay leaves. Wrap the pasta in plastic wrap, and place in the jar. Seal tightly.
  • Attach a label to the jar with the following instructions: Friendship Soup ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: 1 pound ground beef, black pepper to taste, garlic powder to taste, 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes - undrained, 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste, and 3 quarts water. TO PREPARE SOUP: Remove pasta from top of jar, and set aside. In a large pot over medium heat, brown beef with pepper and garlic; drain excess fat. Add diced tomatoes, tomato paste, water, and soup mix. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover, and simmer for 45 minutes. Stir in the pasta, cover, and simmer 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pasta, peas, lentils and barley are tender.
