BASIC BLACK COW (OTHERWISE KNOWN AS COKE FLOAT)

BASIC BLACK COW (Otherwise known as Coke Float) image

I was introduced to these as a very young child and have always loved them. These days I seldom think of making them, but when I do--wow, what a treat! My black cow is made with Coke--not Pepsi, not root beer. Coca Cola, because it has just the right amount of fizz. Photo by: http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-coke-float

ROOT BEER FLOAT (AKA BLACK COW)

Root Beer Float (aka Black Cow) image

Root beer floats are scoops of vanilla ice cream floating on a cup of frothy root beer. Frank Wisner invented the root beer float in the late 1800's. It was first known as a black cow. To make a root beer float, add a scoop (or scoops) of vanilla ice cream into a tall glass of root beer. Don't add the ice cream first and then pour the root beer, because it will end up as a catastrophe.
