GRANDMA'S BEST-EVER SLOPPY JOES
This recipe came from my grandma--one of the few we found written down! I grew up eating these sloppy joes as a kid and now my own kids love them too. Add the oatmeal in small portions and slowly--it doesn't take a whole lot. If you choose, you can also used minced onion to taste--works well if you need to cook more quickly!

Steps:
- Brown hamburger and onion, drain. Combine brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, tomato juice, ketchup and water--pour over browned hamburger. Bring to a boil, then simmer over medium low heat. While simmering, add small amounts of quick cooking oatmeal to hamburger mixture to thicken up sauce--sprinkle slowly in parts. Serve over buns.

BEST EVER SLOPPY JOES
This recipe was given to me by a friend who is a celebrated chef - oddly enough - it was not something he concocted - it was his sisters recipe. Simply put it is the best sloppy joe I have ever had.

Steps:
- In large pan, I use a large electric skillet, brown the ground beef and sausage. Drain off the fat.
- Add remaining ingredients to the pan except for the flour and mix well.
- Cook on low heat, stirring occasionally breaking up any large chunks of meat.
- Once mixture has cooked through (approximately 60 mins) and is slightly thickend sift flour over the top and mix in well to further thicken.
- Note: This can also be made in a crockpot, simply put the browned meats in the crock pot - add the remaining ingredients except for flour, cook on low 6-8 hours and then turn to high and stir in the flour to thicken.

These were a family favorite, when we were growing up. My son loves them, and they sre still my favorite comfort food. The meat mixture can be made ahead, and frozen, it holds up well to a microwave.

BEST EVER SLOPPY JOES
These really are the best ever sloppy joes! Sassy, tangy, sweet and spicy with a great balance of flavors. Plus, this is a quick 'n easy one dish meal (don't mind the long list of ingredients, it really goes together quickly, I promise). The veggies get "sneaked in" & they contribute mellow depth of flavor, while providing valuable health benefits to your family (and nobody will be the wiser!). :) Serve hot on a warmed hamburger bun (we like soft potato buns) with or without shredded cheese, and a pickle spear on the side is good. YUM! I like to make a double batch, one for now and one for later because leftovers are super fabulous the next day (and it freezes beautifully, as well). Hope you enjoy as much as we do!! :)

Steps:
- Preheat a large Dutch oven or saucepan over low heat. Now add the fat to the pan and when melted add the ground beef, celery, onion, carrots, and potato. Cook and stir over medium to medium-high heat until beef is no longer pink; now add the bell peppers and cook until the peppers are softened.
- Add seasonings and remaining ingredients and stir well. Cover the pan, reduce heat to low and simmer for about 20-25 minutes, stirring every five minutes or so until done to your liking (if Joes are too 'loose' uncover your pan and cook uncovered until the consistency you like).
- Serve on a warmed hamburger bun with or without shredded cheddar cheese.

THE BEST EVER SLOPPY JOES!!!

Steps:
- Brown ground beef, drain MOST of the grease out, not all of it. Put in crock pot.
- Place onions, tomatoes, peppers, salt, pepper, garlic, mustard, and worcestershire sauce in crock pot. Mix well.
- Start putting ketchup and bbq sauce in crock pot, mix well...... *****NOTE***** Everyone's taste is different, so my suggestion is to do some taste testing as you're adding the ketchup, bbq sauce, and brown sugar, so that you get the proper mix for your personal palate. What's written above is how my family loves them, sweet and spicy.
- Set crock pot on high for 1 hour, or on low for 2-3 hours or more, til onions and peppers are cooked through but still somewhat crisp.
- Serve on toasted bread, enjoy!!! We save leftovers for lunch the next day, and serve it over white rice rather than on bread.
