Classic baked beans are oven-baked & studded with onions, peppers, and bacon.

1 pound bacon (cooked crispy and diced)
1 red onion (finely diced)
½ cup green bell pepper (finely diced)
⅓ cup brown sugar*
½ cup ketchup
¼ cup molasses
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
2 teaspoons dry mustard
56 ounces baked beans (or pork and beans, two 28 oz cans)
2 tablespoons green onions (sliced )
2 tablespoons bacon (chopped (reserved from cooked bacon))

Steps:

  • Cook bacon in a skillet until crispy and drain on a paper towel. Reserve some of the bacon grease.
  • Finely dice the bacon. Reserve 2 tablespoons for garnish. Set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F, set the rack to the lower-middle position.
  • In the same skillet, heat reserved bacon grease on medium-high heat.
  • Add the diced red onion and green pepper, sauté until softened.
  • In a large bowl, combine brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and dry mustard and whisk together.
  • Stir in the beans, onions, and green peppers.
  • Pour into a 9x13" baking dish. Bake for 2 hours, then stir in the chopped bacon.
  • Bake another hour or more until the sauce has cooked down, and has reached desired consistency.
  • Let the beans stand for 5 minutes to thicken sauce.
  • Garnish with reserved bacon and green onions. Serve.

1 (16 ounce) package hot dogs , cut into 1/4-inch slices
1 (28 ounce) can baked beans with pork
⅔ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, combine the hot dogs, baked beans, ketchup, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and parsley. Mix to blend, and bring to a boil. Turn heat to low, cover, and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

1 pound dried navy beans
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
4 quarts cold water, divided
1 cup chopped red onion
1/2 cup molasses
6 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, bring beans, salt and 2 qt. water to a boil; boil for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat; let stand for 1 hour. Drain beans and discard liquid. Return beans to pan. Cover with remaining water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1-1/2 to 2 hours or until beans are tender. Drain, reserving liquid. In a greased 2-1/2 qt. baking dish, combine beans, 1 cup liquid, onion, molasses, bacon, brown sugar, mustard and pepper. Cover and bake at 325° for 3 to 3-1/2 hours or until beans are as thick as desired thickness, stirring occasionally. Add more of the reserved cooking liquid if needed.
