Baked Beans with smoked sausage are super meaty and thick. Lots of sweetness from brown sugar, molasses, and ketchup.

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 slices bacon, (chopped into 1/2-inch pieces)
1 sweet onion, (chopped)
2 cloves garlic, (finely chopped)
1/2 pound smoked sausage, (sliced, I use kielbasa)
3 (16-ounces) cans pork and beans
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce, (I use TABASCO)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a Dutch oven, cook bacon until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Add onion to bacon drippings and cook until soft.
  • Add garlic and smoked sausage and cook until sausage is browned.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a simmer. Place Dutch oven, uncovered, in oven and cook for 45 to 55 minutes, until thick.

Our family loves my baked beans but I have added smoked sausage and beef to it to take to a potluck and it was a hit! This recipe makes a large amount but you can cut the recipe in half.

1 lb smoked kielbasa/polish sausage, cut in thin slices
1 lb ground chuck
8 slices bacon, diced
2 medium onions, chopped
2 small green peppers, chopped
2 can(s) 53 oz. cans pork and beans
1 c barbeque sauce (i prefer sweet baby ray)
1 c brown sugar, firmly packed
4 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
4 Tbsp mustard

Steps:

  • 1. Brown meats, onions and green peppers together. Skim off fat. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Cover and cook for 20-30 minutes. Stir occasionally.

2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound fully cooked smoked sausage, cut into 1/4-inch slices
3 to 4 cups chicken broth
1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15-1/2 ounces) great northern beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15 ounces) garbanzo beans or chickpeas, rinsed and drained
5 to 6 bay leaves
1 teaspoon minced fresh parsley
1 teaspoon ground cumin
Dash hot pepper sauce
Hot cooked rice or pasta

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, saute onions and garlic in oil until tender. Add sausage; cook and stir until lightly browned. Add broth, beans and seasonings. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Discard bay leaves. Serve in a bowl over rice or pasta.

2 can(s) Bush's Baked Beans...any flavor you like, I use southern style (28 oz each)
1/2 onion, chopped fine
1 small bell pepper, chopped fine
1/2 c light brown sugar
1/4 c ketchup
1 Tbsp yellow mustard
1 lb (roll) Jimmy Dean sausage

Steps:

  • 1. Cook sausage, onions, and bell pepper together in a large skillet.
  • 2. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine both cans of beans, brown sugar, ketchup, and mustard. Mix well.
  • 3. Add drained sausage to beans.
  • 4. Transfer all into a greased 9x13 casserole dish.
