AWESOME BAKED BEANS

This is my sister in law's recipe that she first made for us over a camp stove. I am not a big bean eater but this was AWESOME. Do NOT change ingredients as she told me she did & it did not turn out well. I tried tasting it without as much brown sugar & it was too vinegary. Do not obsess about how much veggies you add tho,' I...

Time 3h

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lg onion chopped
i ea green, red & orange or yellow pepper chopped
1 lb bacon chopped
1 can button mushrooms, drained & halved
1 can kidney beans, well drained
1 can black beans, well drained
2 cans brown beans in sauce
1 can cut green beans or equivalent amount of frozen green beans
1/2 c brown sugar
1 455 ml jar of heinz chili sauce

Steps:

  • 1. Use a large pot for this as it makes quite a large amount. Chop onions, peppers & halve mushrooms. Chop bacon & fry till softened but not hard cooked. If you have a LOT of bacon fat left, you could drain some off but it is best not to skimp with it. Add onions & peppers & saute till softened. Add mushrooms.
  • 2. Add the drained beans, the Chili sauce, brown sugar & cook for 2 1/2 hours in the oven at 250 degrees or on top of the stove at low heat stirring occasionally.

SUPER AWESOME BAKED BEANS

Everywhere I have taken this dish, it's all people talk about! It's the only way I do baked beans anymore! When it's just DH and I, I use only 1 can and 2 quart dish. I hope the measurements are right...I always just eyeball everything! I don't like my baked beans as sweet as most people, so feel free to add more brown sugar to taste! Enjoy!

WINNIE'S BAKED BEANS (AWESOME!)

Winnie's Baked Beans (Awesome!) image

This is the recipe I have been searching for all over my kitchen! These are the best baked beans I have ever had and I lost the recipe for awhile :) These are pretty easy and start with canned baked beans...although they absolutely DO NOT taste like they do! (Got this recipe at a picnic/BBQ at my sister in-law's house and these were brought by her neighbor, Winnie.)
