ASIAN MARINATED PORK CHOPS

This is one of my favorite marinades to use for grilled pork chops. I usually just throw ingredients as I see fit, so the measurements are estimates. The roasted red chili paste can be found in the Asian section of your grocery store.

Time 55m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup soy sauce
½ cup brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon roasted red chili paste
6 (1-inch thick) pork chops

Steps:

  • Place the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, cumin, and chili paste in a large, heavy plastic zipper bag. Smush the bag a few times with your fingers to mix all the ingredients thoroughly and dissolve the brown sugar; place the pork chops into the marinade, and seal the bag. Allow to marinate for 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and lightly oil the grate.
  • Remove the pork chops from the marinade, and discard the marinade. Shake off excess marinade, and grill the pork chops until browned, the meat is no longer pink inside, and the chops show good grill marks, 5 to 7 minutes per side. An instant-read meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of a chop should read at least 145 degrees F (63 degrees C).

Asian cuisine is one of the most diverse and well-known food cultures in the world. When it comes to pork, Asian recipes hit the spot perfectly. One of the most popular recipes is Asian marinated pork chops over a bed of jasmine rice. The tender, flavorful chops combined with the fragrant and light jasmine rice create a perfect balance of flavors for any meal of the day. In this article, we will explore in detail what makes this recipe so special and why you should try it.

Pork Chops

The star of this dish is the marinated pork chop. Roasted or grilled to perfection, the juicy and tender meat is irresistible. The marinade consists of various Asian ingredients such as soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and brown sugar. The soy sauce provides the right amount of saltiness, while the oyster sauce adds the umami flavor. Ginger and garlic bring a unique aroma and taste, and sesame oil adds richness to the marinade. The brown sugar gives the pork chops a nice caramelized texture and a hint of sweetness. Marinating the pork chops for at least a few hours ensures that all the flavors seep into the meat to create a delicious and mouth-watering chop.

Jasmine Rice

Jasmine rice complements the pork perfectly. The fluffy, slightly sticky texture of jasmine rice is the result of its high starch content. The rice has a subtle, floral aroma that makes any dish more fragrant and appetizing. To cook jasmine rice, you only need water, rice, and a pot. Rinse the rice until the water runs clear, then combine it with water in a pot, and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer until the rice is tender and fully cooked. The result is a light and fluffy rice that provides a neutral base to enhance all the flavors of the pork chops.

Vegetables

To add more depth and variety to the dish, you can add some vegetables of your choice. Some popular options are snow peas, bell peppers, onions, carrots, or green beans. Cut the vegetables into thin strips and sauté them in a pan with some oil until they are tender but still slightly crispy. Season them with salt and pepper, and they are ready to be served alongside the pork chops and jasmine rice.

Conclusion

Asian marinated pork chops over a bed of jasmine rice is a recipe that is easy to make, yet full of flavors and textures. The marinade infuses the pork chops with a rich, savory taste, while the jasmine rice adds a light, floral aroma. Adding vegetables brings more color and nutrition to the dish. Whether you're a fan of Asian cuisine or want to try something new, this recipe is guaranteed to satisfy your taste buds.

Choosing the Right Cut

The first step in making the perfect pork chops is choosing the right cut. For marinating, it is recommended to use a cut that is at least 1 inch thick. One of the best cuts for marinating is bone-in pork chops. This cut has a good balance of fat and meat, which makes it ideal for marinating.

Preparing the Marinade

The key to making delicious Asian marinated pork chops is to have a well-balanced marinade. A good marinade should have a combination of salty, sweet, and sour flavors. Here is a simple marinade recipe that you can use for your pork chops: - 1/4 cup soy sauce - 1/4 cup hoisin sauce - 2 tablespoons honey - 1 tablespoon rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon sesame oil - 1 tablespoon grated ginger - 4 garlic cloves, minced Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk until well combined. Place the pork chops in a large resealable bag and pour the marinade over the chops. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to overnight.

Grilling the Pork Chops

Grilling is one of the best ways to cook pork chops. It gives a smoky flavor that compliments the sweetness of the marinade. Here are some tips for grilling your marinated pork chops: - Preheat your grill to a medium-high heat. - Remove the pork chops from the marinade and discard any excess marinade. - Place the pork chops on the grill and cook for 5-6 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F. - Remove the pork chops from the grill and let them rest for 3-5 minutes before serving.

Cooking the Jasmine Rice

Jasmine rice is a fragrant and aromatic rice that is commonly used in Asian cuisine. It is ideal for serving with marinated pork chops as it compliments the flavors of the marinade. Here are some tips for cooking perfect jasmine rice: - Rinse the rice in a fine mesh strainer under running water until the water runs clear. - Place the rice in a pot and add water in a 1:1.5 ratio (1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of water). - Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. - Simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed. - Remove from heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before fluffing it with a fork.
