Time 1h40m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 9

½ cup rice vinegar
5 tablespoons honey
⅓ cup soy sauce (such as Silver Swan®)
¼ cup Asian (toasted) sesame oil
3 tablespoons Asian chili garlic sauce
3 tablespoons minced garlic
salt to taste
8 skinless, boneless chicken thighs
1 tablespoon chopped green onion

Steps:

  • Whisk the vinegar, honey, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, chili garlic sauce, garlic, and salt in a bowl until smooth. Pour half the marinade into a large plastic zipper bag; retain the other half of the sauce. Place the chicken thighs into the bag containing marinade, squeeze all the air out of the bag, and seal. Shake a few times to coat chicken; refrigerate for 1 hour, turning bag once or twice.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Pour the other half of the marinade into a saucepan over medium heat, bring to a boil, and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring often, to thicken sauce. Remove the chicken from the bag; discard used marinade. Place chicken thighs into a 9x13-inch baking dish, and brush with 1/3 of the thickened marinade from the saucepan.
  • Bake 30 minutes, basting one more time after 10 minutes; an instant-read thermometer inserted into a chicken thigh should read 165 degrees F (75 degrees C). Let stand for 5 or 10 minutes; meanwhile, bring remaining marinade back to a boil for 1 or 2 minutes, and serve chicken with marinade. Sprinkle with green onions.

Cooking any dish requires proper preparation and planning to achieve the desired flavor and texture. For those who love chicken dishes, the Asian glazed chicken thighs recipe is an excellent choice. However, making this dish requires a few tips and tricks to achieve a succulent and flavor-packed result. Below are some valuable tips that can help make a perfect Asian glazed chicken thighs recipe.

1. Use High-Quality Chicken Thighs

The quality of meat used in any dish determines the overall taste and texture. When making Asian glazed chicken thighs, it is essential to use high-quality chicken thighs. The best chicken thighs for this recipe are tenders or boneless chicken thighs. They are easier to handle and cook faster than chicken thighs with bones. They also absorb marinade better than chicken breasts, making them more flavorful and juicy.

2. Marinate the Chicken Thighs Overnight

Marinating the chicken thighs overnight is a crucial step in making the Asian glazed chicken thighs recipe. It not only infuses the chicken thighs with flavor but also tenderizes the meat. A good marinade for this dish should have a balance of sweet, sour, salty, and umami flavor profiles. Some of the ingredients that can be used in the marinade include soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Ensure that the chicken thighs are completely covered in the marinade and stored in a tightly sealed container in the fridge.

3. Allow the Chicken Thighs to Rest Before Cooking

Before cooking the marinated chicken thighs, it is crucial to allow them to rest at room temperature for about thirty minutes. Resting the chicken thighs before cooking helps in even cooking and also enhances the flavor. Additionally, the chicken thighs should be patted dry with a paper towel to remove any excess marinade.

4. Preheat the Oven Before Cooking

Preheating the oven before cooking the chicken thighs is a crucial step in achieving a perfectly cooked dish. Ensure that the oven is preheated to 425 F before placing the chicken thighs in it. This temperature helps in attaining crispy skin on the chicken, which is a signature aspect of this dish.

5. Use a Baking Rack

To achieve even cooking of the chicken thighs, it is essential to use a baking rack. The baking rack elevates the chicken thighs from the baking sheet, allowing the hot air to circulate beneath the chicken. This results in crispy skin on all sides of the chicken thighs, which is one of the hallmarks of this dish.

6. Baste the Chicken Thighs During Cooking

Basting the chicken thighs during cooking is a great way to infuse them with even more flavor. The basting mixture can be made from the leftover marinade, soy sauce, honey, and ginger. After fifteen minutes of cooking, brush the basting mixture over the chicken thighs and continue cooking until the chicken is cooked through.

7. Use a Meat Thermometer to Check for Doneness

To ensure that the Asian glazed chicken thighs are perfectly cooked, use a meat thermometer to check for doneness. The internal temperature of the chicken thighs should be 165 F. Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the chicken thigh to get an accurate reading.

Conclusion

In conclusion, making Asian glazed chicken thighs requires a few tips and tricks to achieve a perfect dish. High-quality chicken thighs, overnight marination, allowing the chicken thighs to rest before cooking, preheating the oven, using a baking rack, basting the chicken thighs during cooking, and checking for doneness with a meat thermometer are essential tips to make the perfect Asian glazed chicken thighs. By following these tips, one is guaranteed a succulent and flavor-packed meal that will tantalize their taste buds.
