MODERN TUNA CASSEROLE

Modern Tuna Casserole image

I loved tuna casserole as a kid and found myself craving it as an adult. However, the massive amounts of fat and salt in the traditional recipe were a turnoff healthwise, and it just didn't taste as good as I remembered. I reconfigured the recipe to include more vegetables and the result was delicious. -Rebecca Blanton, St. Helena, California

ARIELLE'S FAVORITE TUNA CASSEROLE

Arielle's Favorite Tuna Casserole image

This is one of my family's favorite quick work night meals - I used to make this as a teen for my folks and have continued with my family. My kids (and hubby) request this one!! Fun ways to change it up are to bake crescent rolls in a ball/roll filled with cheese on top of the casserole (I like to start them out first so the bottoms cook a bit first), or top the casserole with fried onions, crushed potato chips (a great use for those old chips in the cupboard), etc. I modify the amounts depending on what I have in the pantry - but it is always great!!!

Making Arielles favorite tuna casserole recipe is a great way to indulge in a comforting and delicious meal. It is a classic dish that consists of tuna, pasta, and a creamy sauce that is baked to perfection. Here are some valuable tips to consider when making Arielles favorite tuna casserole recipe.

Tip 1: Use High-Quality Ingredients

The first step in making a delicious tuna casserole is to use high-quality ingredients. It is important to choose good quality tuna, preferably solid white albacore tuna, as it is meatier and flakier than other types of tuna. Using fresh ingredients will also make a huge difference in the final taste of the casserole. Choose fresh vegetables such as onions, celery, and bell peppers for a flavorful dish.

Tip 2: Cook The Pasta Al Dente

The pasta plays an essential role in the tuna casserole recipe. It is crucial to cook the pasta al dente, which means it should be cooked just enough so that it is still firm to the bite. Overcooked pasta will result in a mushy and unappetizing casserole. It is recommended to use elbow macaroni or egg noodles for the recipe.

Tip 3: Make a Delicious Sauce

The sauce is the backbone of the tuna casserole, and it is what makes the dish creamy and flavorful. The recipe calls for a combination of cream of mushroom soup and milk, but you can also make a homemade sauce by combining butter, flour, and milk. This will give the casserole a richer and creamier taste.

Tip 4: Add Some Crunch

Adding some crunch to the tuna casserole is a great way to add texture and flavor. You can add some panko breadcrumbs on top of the casserole before baking it, or you can mix some crushed potato chips with the breadcrumbs for a more flavorful crunch. You can also add diced water chestnuts or almonds to the casserole for a nutty and crunchy taste.

Tip 5: Add Some Vegetables

Adding vegetables to the tuna casserole is a great way to make the dish healthier and more nutritious. You can add some frozen peas and carrots to the casserole for a colorful and delicious taste. Other options include broccoli, cauliflower, and spinach. Vegetables will also add some texture to the casserole.

Tip 6: Use The Right Cheese

Cheese is an essential ingredient of the tuna casserole, and it is what makes the dish gooey and flavorful. The recipe calls for shredded cheddar cheese, but you can also use other cheeses such as Parmesan, Swiss, or Gouda. Just ensure that the cheese melts easily and adds flavor to the casserole.

Tip 7: Use The Right Seasonings

Seasonings play a vital role in enhancing the flavor of the tuna casserole. Some of the essential seasonings to use include salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. You can also add some dried herbs such as thyme, parsley, or oregano to the casserole. Just be careful not to over-season the dish.
Conclusion
In conclusion, making Arielles favorite tuna casserole recipe is easy and simple, provided you follow the right steps and use high-quality ingredients.
