When it comes to cooking salmon, there are many recipes you can try. One that has gained popularity in recent years is apricot dijon glazed salmon recipes. This dish offers a sweet, tangy, and savory flavor that is sure to tickle your taste buds. However, as with any dish, there are a few things you need to know to make it perfect. In this article, we look at valuable tips when making apricot dijon glazed salmon recipes.

Tip 1: Choose the right salmon

The type of salmon you use can make a big difference in the flavor, texture, and overall success of your apricot dijon glazed salmon recipe. Look for salmon that is fresh and has a bright orange or pink color. The best types of salmon to use include:
1. Coho salmon
Coho salmon has a milder flavor than other types of salmon, making it an excellent choice for apricot dijon glazed salmon recipes. It also has a firm texture, which is ideal for grilling or roasting.
2. Sockeye salmon
Sockeye salmon is known for its bright orange-red color and rich, bold flavor. It has a slightly stronger taste than coho salmon, and its meat is firmer, making it perfect for grilling or broiling.
3. Chinook salmon
Chinook salmon, also known as king salmon, is the largest and most sought-after salmon species. It has a rich, buttery flavor and a tender, flaky texture. If you decide to use chinook salmon, keep in mind that it is more expensive than other types of salmon.

Tip 2: Marinate the salmon

To infuse your salmon with flavor, you should marinate it before cooking. Mix together apricot preserves, dijon mustard, minced garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl, then add the salmon and coat it well with the marinade. Cover the bowl and let the salmon marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to one hour, or even overnight if you have time. This will help the flavors penetrate the flesh of the fish, making it more flavorful and delicious.

Tip 3: Cook the salmon properly

Cooking the salmon right is crucial to making the perfect apricot dijon glazed salmon dish. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
1. Grill or broil the salmon
Grilling or broiling the salmon is the best way to get a nice char on the outside while keeping the inside juicy and flavorful. Make sure your grill or broiler is preheated to high heat before cooking. Place the salmon on the grill or broiling pan, skin side down, and cook for about 4-6 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fish. Flip the salmon over and continue to cook for another 3-4 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
2. Bake the salmon
Baking salmon is another great option, especially if you don't have a grill or broiler. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the salmon in a baking dish, skin side down. Spoon some of the marinade over the top of the fish. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the salmon is cooked through.
3. Don't overcook the salmon
One of the biggest mistakes people make when cooking salmon is overcooking it. When the salmon is overcooked, it becomes dry and loses its flavor. The best way to tell if the salmon is cooked through is to insert a fork into the thickest part of the fish. If the flesh flakes easily and is opaque, it is done.

Tip 4: Garnish the salmon

Garnishing your apricot dijon glazed salmon dish can add an extra touch of flavor and visual appeal. Here are a few ideas:
1. Fresh herbs
Sprinkle some fresh herbs on top of the salmon before serving. Dill, parsley, and chives are all great options.
2. Lemon
Squeeze a wedge of lemon over the top of the salmon for a bright, citrusy flavor.
3. Toasted almonds
Top the salmon with some toasted almonds for added crunch and nuttiness.

Tip 5: Pair the salmon with the right sides

When serving apricot dijon glazed salmon, it's important to pair it with the right sides to complement the dish's flavors. Here are a few ideas:
1. Roasted vegetables
Roasted vegetables such as carrots, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts pair well with apricot dijon glazed salmon. They are nutritious and add a pop of color to your plate.
2. Grilled asparagus
Grilled asparagus is another great side dish that pairs well with salmon. The smoky flavor of the asparagus complements the sweetness of the glaze.
3. Wild rice
Wild rice is a nutty, chewy grain that pairs well with salmon. It is also a good source of fiber and protein, making it a healthy side dish option.

Conclusion

Apricot dijon glazed salmon is a delicious and healthy dish that is perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions. By following these valuable tips, you can make the perfect apricot dijon glazed salmon dish that is flavorful, juicy, and visually appealing.
