TASTY & HEALTHY APPLESAUCE BREAD

Tasty & Healthy Applesauce Bread image

This is really good, and you'll be amazed at how low in fat and sugar it is! The recipe started as one from Sunset's Light and Healthy cookbook (1990), but I've tweaked it over the years, and I think I could get away with even less sugar. It's moist enough you don't need to spread it with anything -- just slice and enjoy. If you substitute craisins (sweeted dried cranberries), it works nicely for a holiday brunch or snack. Hope you like it.

Applesauce bread is a delicious and healthy bread that is perfect for any time of the day. It is a great way to use up leftover applesauce, and is a fantastic way to add some fruity goodness to your bread. In this article, we will provide some valuable tips on how to make the perfect applesauce bread. 1. Choosing the Right Applesauce: The first step in making perfect applesauce bread is to choose the right applesauce. You want to choose applesauce that is unsweetened, as this will give the bread a natural sweetness without adding any extra sugar. Additionally, you want to choose applesauce that is pure and without any added preservatives or additives. 2. Use the Right Flour: When it comes to making applesauce bread, the type of flour you use can make a big difference. Using whole wheat flour will give your bread a hearty and dense texture, while using all-purpose flour will give it a lighter and fluffier texture. You can also use a combination of both flours to get the best of both worlds. 3. Add Some Spices: Spices are an essential ingredient when it comes to making applesauce bread. Cinnamon is a classic spice that pairs perfectly with applesauce, but you can also use nutmeg, allspice, or ginger for a more complex flavor profile. Just make sure not to overdo it with the spices, as you want the applesauce to be the star of the show. 4. Use the Right Leavening Agents: Leavening agents like baking powder and baking soda are what give bread its rise and fluffiness. When making applesauce bread, it is important to use the right leavening agents in the right amounts. Too much baking soda can give your bread a metallic taste, while too little can result in a dense and heavy loaf. 5. Don't Overmix: When it comes to mixing the ingredients for your applesauce bread, less is more. Overmixing can lead to a tough and dry loaf. Mix the ingredients until they are just combined, and then stop stirring. This will ensure a tender and moist loaf. 6. Use a Non-Stick Loaf Pan: A non-stick loaf pan is essential when making applesauce bread. It ensures that the bread will come out of the pan easily, without breaking or sticking. If you don't have a non-stick loaf pan, make sure to generously grease and flour your pan before adding the batter. 7. Add Some Texture: Adding some texture to your applesauce bread can take it from good to great. You can add chopped nuts, raisins, or even chocolate chips to give your bread some variety and depth of flavor. Just make sure not to add too much, as this can weigh down the bread. 8. Adjust the Sweetness: Depending on the sweetness of your applesauce, you may need to adjust the amount of sugar in the recipe. If your applesauce is very sweet, you may be able to reduce or eliminate the sugar altogether. If your applesauce is tart or unsweetened, you may need to add more sugar to balance out the flavors. Conclusion: Making perfect applesauce bread is all about paying attention to the details. Choosing the right ingredients, mixing them properly, and baking them in the right pan can make all the difference. With these valuable tips, you will be well on your way to making delicious and healthy applesauce bread that everyone will love.
