Time 2h

Yield 56

Number Of Ingredients 14

8 cups applesauce
6 cups brown sugar
4 cups tomato sauce
1 ½ cups apple cider vinegar
4 teaspoons salt
4 teaspoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons liquid smoke flavoring
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
7 1-pint canning jars with lids and rings

Steps:

  • Stir applesauce, brown sugar, tomato sauce, vinegar, salt, garlic powder, cinnamon, liquid smoke, chili powder, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and cloves together in a large pot; bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer until thickened, 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  • Sterilize jars and lids in boiling water for at least 5 minutes.
  • Pour sauce into hot, sterilized jars, filling to within 1/4 inch of the top. Run a knife or thin spatula around the insides of the jars after they have been filled to remove any air bubbles. Wipe the rims of the jars with a moist paper towel to remove any food residue. Top with lids and screw on rings.
  • Place a rack in the bottom of a large stockpot and fill halfway with water. Bring to a boil and lower jars into the boiling water using a holder. Leave a 2-inch space between the jars. Pour in more boiling water if necessary to bring the water level to at least 1 inch above the tops of the jars. Bring the water to a rolling boil, cover the pot, and process for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the jars from the stockpot and place onto a cloth-covered or wood surface, several inches apart, until cool. Once cool, press the top of each lid with a finger, ensuring that the seal is tight (lid does not move up or down at all). Store in a cool, dark area.

Valuable Tips When Making Applebee's Knock Off BBQ Sauce Recipes

BBQ sauce is a quintessential ingredient in every barbecue recipe. It is the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and smoky flavors that make barbecue dishes delicious and irresistible. Applebee's is a popular casual dining restaurant chain that serves delicious barbecued dishes with their signature BBQ sauce. If you are a barbecue enthusiast and want to recreate Applebee's BBQ sauce at home, then here are some valuable tips to keep in mind:
1. Choose the Right Ingredients
The first and foremost thing to keep in mind when making Applebee's knock off BBQ sauce recipes is to choose high-quality ingredients. Barbecue sauce is all about the balance of flavors, so every ingredient you use must be fresh and of good quality. Use fresh garlic, onions, tomatoes, and peppers to give your BBQ sauce a natural and authentic flavor. You can also use canned tomatoes and peppers if fresh ones are not available, but make sure they are of high quality.
2. Balance the Sweetness and Tanginess
Applebee's BBQ sauce is known for its perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess. To achieve this balance, you need to use the right amount of sweet and sour ingredients. For sweetness, you can use honey, molasses, brown sugar, or maple syrup. For tanginess, you can use vinegar, lime juice, or lemon juice. Mix them in the right proportion until you get the desired balance.
3. Add Smoky Flavor
A good BBQ sauce always has a subtle smoky flavor that gives it an extra kick. You can add this smoky flavor by using smoked paprika, liquid smoke, or chipotle peppers. These ingredients will give your BBQ sauce a rich, smoky flavor that is reminiscent of a classic outdoor grill.
4. Experiment with Spices and Herbs
Apart from the basic ingredients, you can add your own twist to Applebee's BBQ sauce recipe by experimenting with spices and herbs. For example, you can add cumin, chili powder, or mustard powder to give your BBQ sauce a unique flavor. You can also add fresh herbs like oregano, thyme, or rosemary to enhance the taste and aroma of your BBQ sauce.
5. Use a Blender or Food Processor
To make a smooth and silky BBQ sauce, you need to blend all the ingredients properly. Use a high-speed blender or food processor to blend all the ingredients until they are smooth and well incorporated. This will give your sauce a uniform texture and enhance its flavors.
6. Adjust the Thickness
The thickness of your BBQ sauce is an important factor to consider. If your sauce is too thin, it will not stick to the meat properly. If it's too thick, it will overpower the taste of the meat. You can adjust the thickness of your BBQ sauce by simmering it for longer or adding water to thin it down. Keep tasting as you adjust the thickness until you get the perfect texture.
7. Let it Rest
After you have prepared your BBQ sauce, let it rest for some time to allow the flavors to meld together. Transfer the sauce to an airtight container and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before using it. This will give your sauce a more complex and mature flavor that will make your barbecue dishes even more delicious.
8. Store it Properly
Once you have made your knock off Applebee's BBQ sauce, you must store it properly to keep it fresh and flavorful. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. You can also freeze it for longer storage, but make sure to thaw it before using it. Always use a clean spoon or spatula to scoop the sauce to prevent contamination. In conclusion, making Applebee's knock off BBQ sauce recipe requires attention to detail and experimentation. By using these valuable tips, you can make a BBQ sauce that tastes just like Applebee's signature sauce or even better. If you get the balance of sweetness, tanginess, and smokiness right, your BBQ sauce will enhance the taste of your meat and make your barbecue dishes irresistible.
