APPLE WALNUT BREAD (BREAD MACHINE)

Apple Walnut Bread (Bread Machine) image

This is for a bread machine, but can also be shaped by hand if you desire. I have done this with half white whole wheat flour (King Arthur) and it works well, too. If your machine has a "sweet" setting, use that, as it will keep the high-sugar contents from getting dark too fast.

Categories     Sweet Breads

Time 2h35m

Number Of Ingredients 12

6 oz unsweetened applesauce
3 1/2 oz apple juice
1 tsp salt
3 Tbsp butter
1 large egg
4 c bread flour
1/4 c brown sugar, packed
1 1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp active dry yeast (quick acting)
1/2 c chopped walnuts
1/2 c chopped dried cranberries (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Measure all ingredients into the bread machine pan, in the order given. Select the "sweet" or "basic" setting. Start machine and operate according to manufacturer's instructions.
  • 2. If desired to shape by hand, operate machine using "dough only" setting. Remove dough from machine when done, cover, and let rest 20 minutes.
  • 3. Shape bread into a braid by dividing into 3 parts and rolling out into thin tubes, then braid together. Place on greased baking sheet. Brush with an egg wash. (Or place dough into well greased bread pan.) Allow to rise in warm place until doubled, about 45-60 minutes. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. Remove immediately from pan and cool on wire rack.

Making apple walnut bread with a breadmaker is a delightful and easy-to-follow process. This delectable bread is perfect for breakfast, snack time, and even dinner. Its sweet and crunchy taste, with the added nutrition of apples and walnuts, makes it an ideal bread for health-conscious people. In this article, we will provide you with valuable tips that will help you get the best result when making apple walnut bread using a breadmaker.

Tip #1: Use the Right Ingredients

The first and foremost tip when making apple walnut bread in a bread maker is using the right ingredients. Always choose fresh and high-quality ingredients to ensure that your bread will turn out perfectly. Use fresh and crisp apples that are not overripe or underripe. Additionally, use good quality walnuts that are not stale or rancid. Always measure the ingredients according to the recipe to get the best result.

Tip #2: Choose the Right Bread Maker

When making apple walnut bread, ensure that you have the right breadmaker for the job. Choose a breadmaker with a fruit and nut dispenser feature that you can use to add the fruits and nuts at the appropriate time. Also, make sure that your breadmaker has the right settings for making bread, such as a dough or jam setting.

Tip #3: Prepare the Apples and Walnuts Correctly

Preparation is key when making apple walnut bread. Before using the apples, ensure that they are washed and peeled, and their core is removed. Additionally, chop the apples into small pieces or grate them to ensure even distribution in the bread. When preparing the walnuts, chop them to the desired size and ensure that they are not too big to avoid them sinking to the bottom of the bread.

Tip #4: Ensure the Right Dough Consistency

To achieve the perfect apple walnut bread, you must ensure that the dough consistency is correct. If it is too dry, it will result in a dry bread that crumbles. In contrast, if it is too wet, it will not be able to rise, resulting in a dense and heavy bread. Always add the correct amount of flour and liquid to get the perfect dough consistency.

Tip #5: Add the Ingredients in the Right Order

To ensure that all the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the bread, add them in the right order. First, add the liquid ingredients, such as water, milk, or apple juice, followed by the dry ingredients such as flour and salt. Lastly, add the sweeteners and the fruits and nuts. This ensures that the fruits and nuts are distributed evenly throughout the bread.

Tip #6: Watch the Bread as it Bakes

When making apple walnut bread in a breadmaker, ensure that you watch it as it bakes. If you notice that the bread is rising too high, gently push it down with a rubber spatula. Additionally, if you notice that one side of the bread is browning more than the other, turn the pan around to ensure even baking.

Tip #7: Cool the Bread Appropriately

When the bread is done, remove it from the breadmaker and let it cool appropriately. First, let it cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Cooling the bread in the pan ensures that it holds its shape. Additionally, cooling the bread on a wire rack ensures that it cools evenly and avoids moisture buildup that can make the bread soggy.

Conclusion

In conclusion, making apple walnut bread using a breadmaker is an easy and fun process. The tips provided above will help you make the perfect apple walnut bread with minimal effort. Remember to use fresh and high-quality ingredients, the right breadmaker, and to prepare the apples and walnuts correctly. Additionally, ensure that the dough consistency is correct, add the ingredients in the right order, watch the bread as it bakes, and cool it appropriately. By following these valuable tips, you are guaranteed to get the perfect apple walnut bread every time you make it.
