APPLE-CHEDDAR WAFFLES

Apple-Cheddar Waffles image

We used self raising flour, which has both leavening and salt in it, as a shortcut ingredient to make these savory and fluffy waffles. A small bit of sugar in the batter doesn't add detectable sweetness, but keeps the waffles moist and helps the exterior crisp up when cooking.

Time 40m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 stick unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly, plus more for the waffle iron
1 1/2 cups milk
2 large eggs
2 cups self-rising flour
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
1 Gala apple, finely chopped
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
2 teaspoons grainy mustard
1 5-ounce package mixed baby greens
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 225˚ F or 250˚ F (as low as your oven will go). Combine the melted butter, milk and eggs in a large bowl; whisk to combine. Add the flour and confectioners' sugar and stir to moisten, then add the apple and cheese and stir until well blended. Set aside.
  • Heat a waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. Working in batches, lightly butter the waffle iron, then ladle in some of the batter. Close the iron and cook until the waffles are browned and crisp, 5 to 7 minutes. Remove to a baking sheet and keep warm in the oven while you cook the remaining waffles.
  • Meanwhile, mix the maple syrup and mustard together in a small bowl. Toss the greens with the vinegar, olive oil and a pinch each of salt and pepper in a large bowl. Divide the waffles among plates, along with the salad. Drizzle the maple mixture over the waffles or serve on the side for dipping.

Waffle Applewich (Ham, Cheese, and Apple Sandwiches on Waffles) image

This is a fun sandwich for breakfast or lunch! I use the leanest ham available, often use sugar free syrup, and whole grain waffles. That way it is even a lower fat and calorie count than the nutrition analysis shows. Quick and easy to make, and delicious to eat! Kid's LOVE it! Comes from the lunch box builder on Kraft's website.

Apple waffle sandwich is a unique twist on traditional waffles that boasts the perfect combination of sweet and savory flavors. This delicious breakfast option is made using waffles, sliced apples, and various other ingredients to create a delectable meal that is perfect for any morning. It's quick and easy to make and can be customized to suit your personal preferences.

Ingredients

Unlike traditional waffles, apple waffle sandwich recipes typically include unique ingredients. Here are some of the essential ingredients that you may need:

  • Waffle mix
  • Egg
  • Milk or water
  • Maple syrup
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon
  • Sliced apples
  • Cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • Ham or bacon

Instructions

The beauty of apple waffle sandwich recipes is that they're highly customizable. These waffles can be made in many different ways, depending on your preferences. Here's a general guide to follow when making apple waffle sandwiches:

Step 1: Preheat Your Waffle Maker

Before you start making your waffles, preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 2: Make Your Waffle Batter

Most apple waffle sandwich recipes call for a basic waffle mix. Mix the waffle mix, eggs, milk, cinnamon, and maple syrup until it's well combined. Once your waffle batter is mixed, set it aside.

Step 3: Cook Your Waffles

When your waffle maker is heated, pour enough batter onto the waffle maker. Cook your waffles according to your waffle maker's instructions until they're golden brown. Once your waffles are cooked, set them aside.

Step 4: Assemble Your Waffles

Once your waffles are cooked, it's time to start assembling your waffle sandwiches. Start by adding a layer of cheese on top of one waffle. Arrange the ham or bacon on top of the cheese, then add a layer of sliced apples on top of the meat. Drizzle maple syrup on top of the sliced apples, and place the other waffle on top of everything.

Step 5: Cook Your Waffle Sandwich

Once your waffle sandwich is assembled, place it onto the waffle maker and cook it for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and the sandwich is hot. Once it's cooked, remove it from the waffle maker and serve immediately.

Alternatives and Variations

One of the best things about apple waffle sandwich recipes is that there are many ways to customize them to suit your personal preferences. Here are some variations you can try:

1. Swap Out Ingredients

You can swap out any of the ingredients to add more or less sweetness, saltiness or spice to your waffles. For example, you can replace the ham or bacon with smoked turkey or sausage, and add jalapenos for an extra kick.

2. Change the Cheese

Cheddar and Swiss cheeses work beautifully in apple waffle sandwiches, but you can use other cheeses like Gouda, Provolone, or Brie for a different taste.

3. Add More Toppings

You can add toppings like sautéed onions, sliced avocado, or even garlic butter to add more flavor to your apple waffle sandwich.

4. Use Multigrain waffles

If you're looking for a healthier option, consider using multigrain waffles instead of traditional waffles. This will give your sandwich a heartier texture and a subtle nutty flavor that compliments the sweetness of the apples.

Conclusion

Apple waffle sandwich is a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast that offers a perfect combination of sweet and savory flavors. It's highly customizable, allowing you to experiment with different ingredients and toppings to suit your taste buds. Follow these instructions and variations to make the perfect apple waffle sandwich.

Are you tired of the same boring breakfast options? Try making an apple waffle sandwich! This delicious dish is not only easy to make, but it also offers a nice twist on the traditional waffle breakfast. Here are some valuable tips to consider when making apple waffle sandwich recipes.

Tip #1: Choose the Right Waffle Maker

The waffle maker you use can make a big difference in the end result of your apple waffle sandwich. Look for a waffle maker with a non-stick surface to prevent sticking and ensure easy clean-up. Additionally, consider the shape and size of the waffle maker. A square or round waffle maker will work for this recipe, but it's important to choose a size that works well for creating sandwiches.

Tip #2: Use the Right Apples

When making apple waffle sandwiches, it's important to use the right kind of apples. Apples that are too tart or too sweet can throw off the flavor of the dish. Look for apples that are crisp, juicy, and have a balance of sweetness and tartness. Honeycrisp, Braeburn, and Granny Smith apples are great choices.

Tip #3: Properly Prep the Apples

Prepping the apples properly is important to ensure even distribution and optimal flavor. Start by washing the apple and removing the stem. Then, use a sharp knife or apple peeler to remove the skin. Cut the apple into thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick. If desired, toss the apple slices with a little bit of lemon juice to keep them from browning.

Tip #4: Experiment with Spices

While apple waffle sandwiches are delicious on their own, adding spices can take them to the next level. Consider adding cinnamon, nutmeg, or allspice to the apple slices before cooking them. These spices will not only add flavor but also make your kitchen smell amazing as the sandwich cooks.

Tip #5: Add Some Sweetness

To balance out the tartness of the apples and the spices, it can be helpful to add a little bit of sweetness to the recipe. Whether it's a drizzle of honey, a sprinkle of brown sugar, or a dollop of maple syrup, adding sweetness can elevate the dish and bring all the flavors together.

Tip #6: Don't Overcook the Waffles

The key to a perfect apple waffle sandwich is a perfectly cooked waffle. Overcooking the waffle will lead to a dry and crunchy sandwich, while undercooking the waffle will result in a mushy mess. Cook the waffles until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside, but still fluffy and moist on the inside.

Tip #7: Build the Sandwich Properly

Building the sandwich properly is important to ensure even distribution of ingredients and to prevent the sandwich from falling apart. Start with one waffle, then add a layer of apple slices, followed by a drizzle of honey or maple syrup, then the second waffle on top. Use a knife to cut the sandwich in half, both for easier eating and for presentation purposes.

Tip #8: Add Some Texture

Adding some texture to the sandwich can make it even more delicious. Consider adding some chopped nuts, such as pecans or walnuts, to the sandwich for a crunch. Alternatively, top the sandwich with some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for a creamy finish.

Tip #9: Experiment with Toppings

While the above tips are great for creating a delicious basic apple waffle sandwich, don't be afraid to experiment with toppings to make the dish your own. Consider adding some sliced bananas, strawberries, or blueberries to the sandwich. Alternatively, try adding some bacon or ham for a salty contrast to the sweetness of the apples.

Conclusion

Making apple waffle sandwiches for breakfast is an easy and delicious way to switch up your morning routine. Follow these valuable tips to ensure the best possible end result for your dish. Remember to choose the right waffle maker, use the right apples, experiment with spices and sweetness, cook the waffles properly, build the sandwich properly, add some texture, and experiment with toppings. With these tips in mind, you're sure to create a tasty breakfast that will impress your family and friends.
