Apple Streusel Ice Cream is a delicious treat that combines two beloved desserts into one. The creamy, cold ice cream base is infused with chunks of apple and cinnamon, while the crispy streusel topping adds a satisfying crunch to every spoonful. This dessert is perfect for anyone who loves the taste of apple pie but craves something cold and refreshing in the summertime.

Ingredients

The key ingredients for this recipe are fresh apples, cinnamon, sugar, heavy cream, whole milk, vanilla extract, and streusel topping. You will also need a ice cream maker to churn the mixture into a creamy consistency.
Fresh Apples
Choose apples that are firm and ripe, without any bruises or blemishes. You can use any variety of apple that you prefer, although tart apples like Granny Smiths are ideal for this recipe.
Cinnamon and Sugar
These two pantry staples are essential for adding flavor and sweetness to the ice cream base. Use ground cinnamon and granulated sugar, and adjust the amounts according to your personal preference.
Heavy Cream and Whole Milk
These two dairy products are the foundation of the ice cream, giving it a rich and creamy texture. Use heavy cream for extra richness, and whole milk for a more balanced flavor.
Vanilla Extract
Add a splash of vanilla extract to enhance the flavor of the ice cream and balance out the sweetness of the apples and streusel.
Streusel Topping
The streusel topping is what sets this recipe apart from traditional apple pie ice cream. Use a combination of flour, sugar, oats, cinnamon, and butter to create a crumbly, crunchy topping that contrasts with the smooth texture of the ice cream.

Instructions

Making apple streusel ice cream is a multi-step process that requires patience and attention to detail. Here is a general overview of the steps involved:
Step 1: Prepare the Apples
Before you can add the apples to the ice cream mixture, you need to peel, core, and chop them into small pieces. Toss the apples with cinnamon and sugar to coat them evenly, and set aside while you prepare the ice cream base.
Step 2: Make the Ice Cream Base
In a large bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, vanilla extract, and additional sugar until the mixture is smooth and well combined. You may also want to heat the mixture over low heat to dissolve the sugar completely, although this is optional.
Step 3: Churn the Mixture
Transfer the ice cream mixture to your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions. This typically takes around 20-30 minutes, although the exact time may vary depending on your machine.
Step 4: Add the Apples
During the last few minutes of churning, add the chopped apples to the mixture and continue churning until the ice cream is thick and creamy.
Step 5: Make the Streusel Topping
While the ice cream is churning, prepare the streusel topping by combining flour, sugar, oats, cinnamon, and butter in a small bowl. Use your fingers to mix the ingredients together until they form a crumbly mixture.
Step 6: Add the Streusel Topping
Once the ice cream is finished churning, transfer it to a freezer-safe container and sprinkle the streusel topping over the top. Use a spoon or spatula to swirl the streusel into the ice cream mixture, creating pockets of crunchy goodness throughout.
Step 7: Freeze and Serve
Cover the container with a lid or plastic wrap and freeze the ice cream for at least 2-3 hours, or until it reaches your desired consistency. When you're ready to serve, scoop the ice cream into bowls or cones and enjoy!

Conclusion

Apple Streusel Ice Cream is a creative twist on classic apple pie, combining the flavors of creamy ice cream, tart apples, and crunchy streusel topping into one delicious dessert. With a little bit of patience and a lot of love, you can create this tasty treat at home and enjoy it with family and friends all year round.

Valuable Tips When Making Apple Streusel Ice Cream Recipes

Ice cream is one of the most loved desserts in the world, and for a good reason. It's sweet, creamy, and can be customised in a million ways. If you want to add something special to the classic vanilla ice cream, try making apple streusel ice cream. Here are some valuable tips to keep in mind when making this delicious dessert.
1. Use fresh apples
The star ingredient of apple streusel ice cream is, of course, fresh apples. Choose firm, crisp apples that are in season for the best flavour. Some of the best apple varieties for baking and ice cream making are Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, and Braeburn. Avoid using soft, mealy, or bruised apples as they will make the ice cream watery and unappetising.
2. Precook the apples
To get the most flavour and texture out of the apples, it's essential to precook them before adding them to the ice cream mix. You can cook the apples on the stovetop with some sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice until tender and caramelised. Alternatively, you can bake the apples in the oven until soft and fragrant. Be careful not to overcook the apples as they will turn mushy and lose their shape.
3. Make a streusel topping
The crunchy streusel topping is what elevates this ice cream recipe from ordinary to extraordinary. To make streusel, you'll need flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter. Mix the dry ingredients and then cut in the butter until the mixture forms coarse crumbs. Spread the streusel on a baking sheet and bake until golden brown and crispy. Once cooled, crumble the streusel over the ice cream for added texture and flavour.
4. Let the ice cream base cool
Before churning the ice cream, make sure that the ice cream base is fully cooled. Cooling the base helps to prevent ice crystals from forming and ensures a smooth and creamy texture. Once you've cooked the base on the stovetop, transfer it to a heatproof bowl and place it in the fridge until it's completely chilled. You can even leave it overnight for best results.
5. Use an ice cream maker
Although it's possible to make ice cream without an ice cream maker, using one certainly makes the process much easier and yields better results. An ice cream maker churns the ice cream mixture while freezing it, resulting in a smoothly textured and airy ice cream. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for best results and make sure to freeze the bowl ahead of time.
6. Layer the ice cream and toppings
To make the apple streusel ice cream extra special, layer the ice cream with the cooked apples and streusel topping in a container. Alternate between the vanilla ice cream, the apple mixture, and the streusel to create a visually pleasing and flavourful dessert. Make sure to give the ice cream a good stir once it's done freezing to distribute the apples and streusel throughout the mixture.
7. Serve immediately or store in the freezer
Apple streusel ice cream is best served immediately after churning, although you can also store it in the freezer for up to two weeks. If you're serving it straight from the freezer, let it soften at room temperature for a few minutes before scooping. You can also re-frost ice cream after letting it melt in the freezer by putting it back in the ice cream maker and following the manufacturer's directions. In conclusion, making apple streusel ice cream is a fun and delicious way to enjoy the classic dessert with a twist. By following these valuable tips, you'll be able to create a perfectly balanced and satisfying dessert that everyone will love. Don't be afraid to experiment with different apple varieties, spices, and toppings to make it your own.
