APPLE PRALINE BREAD RECIPE - (4.6/5)

Apple Praline Bread Recipe - (4.6/5) image

Provided by Snootie

Number Of Ingredients 12

For the praline sauce:
1 cup sour cream
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and finely chopped
1 cup nuts (walnut or pecan or a combo), divided
1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup butter

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan. Set aside. (I used stoneware loaf pan for perfect cooking) Using an electric mixer, beat together the sour cream, sugar, eggs and vanilla on low speed for a couple of minutes until well blended. Stop the mixer and then add in the flour, leavening agents and salt. Continue to beat on low until well combined. Fold in the apples and half the nuts into the batter. Transfer the batter into the greased loaf pan. Sprinkle the rest of the nuts on top and then press them lightly into the batter. Bake for about 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in the loaf pan for about 20-30 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. So it doesn't get too dark, I suggest using a light colored loaf pan. For the praline sauce: In a small sauce pan, place the butter and brown sugar. Using medium heat, bring to a boil. Lower the heat and then simmer lightly for about one minute, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and then drizzle over the bread. Cool completely..

APPLE PRALINE PIE

Apple Praline Pie image

An apple pie loaded with the sweet flavors of brown sugar, spices and pecans.

Provided by By Betty Crocker Kitchens

Categories     Dessert

Time 2h15m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 2/3 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup shortening
7 to 8 tablespoons cold water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
8 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples (7 medium)
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons half-and-half

Steps:

  • In medium bowl, mix 2 2/3 cups flour and 1 teaspoon salt. Cut in shortening, using pastry blender (or pulling 2 table knives through ingredients in opposite directions), until particles are size of small peas. Sprinkle with cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with fork until all flour is moistened and pastry almost leaves side of bowl (1 to 2 teaspoons more water can be added if necessary).
  • Gather pastry into a ball. Divide in half; shape into 2 flattened rounds on lightly floured surface. Wrap in plastic wrap; refrigerate about 45 minutes or until dough is firm and cold, yet pliable. This allows the shortening to become slightly firm, which helps make the baked pastry more flaky. If refrigerated longer, let pastry soften slightly before rolling.
  • Heat oven to 425°F. With floured rolling pin, roll one pastry round into round 2 inches larger than upside-down 10-inch glass pie plate. Fold pastry into fourths; place in pie plate. Unfold and ease into plate, pressing firmly against bottom and side.
  • In large bowl, mix granulated sugar, 2/3 cup of the pecans, 1/3 cup flour, the cinnamon, nutmeg and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add apples; toss to coat. Spoon into pastry-lined pie plate. Cut butter into small pieces; sprinkle over apples. Trim overhanging edge of pastry 1/2 inch from rim of pie plate.
  • Roll other round of pastry into 11-inch round. Fold into fourths and cut slits so steam can escape. Unfold pastry over filling; trim overhanging edge 1 inch from rim of plate. Fold and roll top edge under lower edge, pressing on rim to seal; flute as desired. Cover edge with 2- to 3-inch strip of foil to prevent excessive browning.
  • Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until crust is brown and juice begins to bubble through slits in crust, removing foil for last 15 minutes of baking.
  • In 1-quart saucepan, place brown sugar, remaining 1/3 cup pecans and the half-and-half. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar is melted. Spread over hot pie. Serve warm.

Valuable Tips for Making Apple Praline Cups Recipes

Choose the Right Apples

When making apple praline cups, it is important to choose the right type of apple. Granny Smith apples are a popular choice because of their tart flavor, but you can also use Honeycrisp or Braeburn apples. Make sure to select firm apples that are not bruised or overly ripe.

Prepare the Apples Properly

Before cooking the apples, you need to prepare them properly. Peel and core the apples, then slice them into thin, even pieces. This will ensure that they cook evenly and that the texture of the finished dish is consistent.

Use Quality Ingredients

When making apple praline cups, it is important to use high-quality ingredients. This includes fresh apples, real butter, and pure vanilla extract. Using cheaper or low-quality ingredients can affect the flavor and texture of the finished dessert.

Make the Praline Topping in Advance

The praline topping is a key component of apple praline cups, and it is important to make it in advance. This will give the topping time to cool and harden before you sprinkle it over the baked apples. To make the praline topping, melt butter in a saucepan and then add brown sugar, heavy cream, and chopped pecans. Cook the mixture until it thickens and then pour it onto a baking sheet to cool.

Use the Right Baking Dish

When baking apple praline cups, it is important to use the right size and type of baking dish. A 9-inch square baking dish is a good option, but you can also use individual ramekins. Make sure that the baking dish is well-greased to prevent sticking.

Don’t Overcook the Apples

Overcooking the apples can result in a mushy, unappetizing dessert. To ensure that the apples are cooked perfectly, bake them until they are tender but still hold their shape. Check on the apples halfway through the cooking time to make sure they aren’t overcooking.

Allow the Dessert to Cool

After baking, it is important to allow the apple praline cups to cool before serving. This will give the dish time to set and the juices to thicken. Serve the dessert warm or at room temperature, with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Tweak the Recipe to Suit Your Taste

If you like your desserts on the sweeter side, you can add extra sugar to the apples or praline topping. You can also experiment with different spices, such as cinnamon or nutmeg, to give the dessert a unique flavor. Don’t be afraid to tweak the recipe to suit your taste preferences.
