KIELBASA APPLE KABOBS

Kielbasa Apple Kabobs image

This is a super simple recipe I copied from the Whole Foods Market website. The grilled kielbasa have such a wonderful flavor. You can even use turkey kielbasa to save on calories and fat. I use more apple just because my kids like the way they taste off the grill. It's okay to let the ingredients sit in the lemon juice mixture for a few minutes. I was concerned about that at first, but it does not overpower or alter the flavor of the dish. I also don't use the skewers. I use a grilling basket - it's much faster!! I serve with couscous.

Valuable Tips when making apple kielbasa kabobs recipes

If you are looking for an easy-to-make and crowd-pleasing dish for your next outdoor get-together, then apple kielbasa kabobs are just the perfect menu item for you. These delicious kabobs are made by skewering pieces of smoky kielbasa sausage, crunchy apples, and sweet red onion on a stick before grilling them to perfection. However, before you fire up your grill and start cooking, there are a few tips that every home cook needs to know to ensure delicious and successful results.
1. Choose the Right Kielbasa Sausage
When making apple kielbasa kabobs, it is crucial to choose the right kielbasa sausage. Make sure to select a high-quality kielbasa sausage that is smoked and has a robust flavor. You can buy pre-cooked kielbasa sausage at your local grocery store or try your hand at making your own homemade kielbasa.
2. Use Firm Apples
Apples play a significant role in adding sweetness and crunch to apple kielbasa kabobs. Choose firm apples such as Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Jonagold that can hold up well under grilling. Avoid using soft or mealy apples, as they will turn into a mushy mess when grilled.
3. Cut Apples into Uniform Chunks
To ensure even cooking of your apple kielbasa kabobs, it is essential to cut the apples into uniform-sized chunks. Cut the apples into ½ inch to 1 inch thick cubes, making sure to remove the core and seeds. This will ensure that the apples cook evenly and hold up on the skewers.
4. Soak Skewers Before Grilling
If you are using wooden skewers to make apple kielbasa kabobs, make sure to soak them for at least 30 minutes before grilling. This will prevent the skewers from burning and will keep your kabobs intact while you are grilling.
5. Alternate Kielbasa and Apples on Skewers
When skewering the kielbasa sausage and apples, make sure to alternate them. This will create a nice balance of smoky, meaty flavor and sweet, fruity flavor in every bite.
6. Brush with Oil
Brushing the kabobs with oil before grilling will prevent them from sticking to the grill and will help them cook evenly. Use a high-heat oil such as canola or vegetable oil for best results.
7. Use Medium Heat
When grilling apple kielbasa kabobs, it is important to use medium heat. This will ensure that the kabobs cook evenly and do not burn. Cook the kabobs for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the sausages are cooked through and the apples are tender.
8. Let the Kabobs Rest
After grilling, it is important to let the apple kielbasa kabobs rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute and will make the kabobs more flavorful and tender.
9. Serve with Dipping Sauce
Apple kielbasa kabobs are delicious on their own but can be taken to the next level with a flavorful dipping sauce. Try serving them with a honey mustard sauce, BBQ sauce or a spicy dipping sauce for added flavor. In conclusion, making apple kielbasa kabobs is simple and straightforward, and by following the above tips, you can ensure delicious and successful results. It is a perfect dish to impress your guests at your next outdoor gathering, and you can experiment with various ingredients to make it your own.
