1 stick plus 2 teaspoons unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 cups peeled, cored and chopped apples
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons water

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 13 by 9-inch glass baking dish with 2 teaspoons of the butter.

In a separate bowl or on a piece of parchment, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Add to the wet ingredients, alternating with the sour cream and vanilla. Fold in the apples. Pour into the prepared baking dish, spreading out to the edges.

Ingredients

The first step in making a delicious apple crunch coffee cake is to ensure that you have all the necessary ingredients. The key ingredients are:

  • All-purpose flour
  • Granulated sugar
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Unsalted butter
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Apples
  • Brown sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla extract
  • Chopped nuts (optional)

Preparation

Preheat your oven

Before starting to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This is essential to ensure that your apple crunch coffee cake bakes evenly and is cooked to perfection.

Prepare the apples

Peel and core the apples and cut them into small pieces. You can either use a knife or a food processor. Set them aside.

Prepare the streusel topping

To prepare the streusel topping, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped nuts (if using) in a bowl. Add in the melted butter and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly. Set the streusel aside.

Prepare the batter

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add in the melted butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until the batter becomes smooth.

Combine the ingredients

Add the chopped apples to the batter and mix until the apples are evenly distributed. Pour the mixture into a greased baking pan and spread it out evenly. Finally, sprinkle the streusel topping over the batter.

Baking

Bake your cake

Bake your apple crunch coffee cake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Ensure that you do not overbake because it can cause the cake to dry out.

Cooling down

Let your apple crunch coffee cake cool down for at least 10-15 minutes before serving. This will ensure that the cake is firm enough and doesn't fall apart.

Tips for Making Perfect Apple Crunch Coffee Cake

Use fresh apples

When making an apple crunch coffee cake, it's crucial to use fresh apples. Fresh apples have a crisp texture and a sweet flavor that enhances the taste of the cake.

Balance the ingredients

When making any cake, it's crucial to maintain the balance of ingredients. Ensure that you do not add too much of one ingredient and not enough of another. This can affect the texture and the flavor of the cake.

Use a food processor

Using a food processor to chop the apples can save you time and energy. It also ensures that the apples are cut into the same size and consistency, resulting in a more even distribution throughout the cake batter.

Cut the cake into small pieces

When serving the cake, cut it into small pieces to prevent it from falling apart. The streusel topping can be quite crumbly, so smaller pieces are easier to handle and less likely to break.

Experiment with the recipe

Don't be afraid to experiment with the recipe. Try different types of nuts or add a sprinkle of nutmeg or ginger for an extra kick. This can take your apple crunch coffee cake to the next level, and you might even discover your own unique recipe.

Conclusion

Making apple crunch coffee cake is a delightful experience, and with these valuable tips, you can make the perfect cake every time. So why not try it out and impress your friends and family with your baking skills?
