CRESCENT ROLL APPLE DUMPLINGS

Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings image

When it comes to apple desserts, it takes a lot to impress me. I'm just not a huge fan of the texture of a cooked apple, but that was before I met my friend called apple dumpling. She's warm, sweet, and a little flaky, but hey... who isn't these days!?!? Seriously, these little babies are my all-time favorite apple dessert now. They are warm, gooey, and the crunchy part with the sugar on top... good graccious! And easy - it really probably couldn't get any easier. You put some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream with these babies and prepare to be amazed.

Time 45m

Yield 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 (8 ounce) cans crescent roll dough (8 ct. each)
2 apples, peeled and cored
1 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon, to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Wash the apples, peel and cut into eight equal slices or segments.
  • Unwrap the crescent roll and separate the triangles.
  • Place a piece of apple on each triangle of dough (on a wider side) and roll it in a croissant. You can wrap it like a crescent roll or you can wrap the dough over the apple slice covering the whole apple (dumpling style), either way.
  • Place each dumpling in an 11 x 13-inch baking dish that has been sprayed with Pam or coated with a stick of butter.
  • In a sauce pan, combine water, butter, sugar, and vanilla and heat to a rolling boil.
  • Pour boiling mixture over the dumpling and sprinkle dumplings with cinnamon.
  • Place uncovered in 350 degree oven and bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until they become golden brown.
  • Serve immediately and top with cool whip. Or serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, mmmmm -- Ah-mazing !
  • WARNING: Prepare this dish at your own risk. It is beyond imaginable.
  • I actually cut the recipe in half unless I have a big group to serve. And then I use a square Pyrex dish when I cut it in half.

Valuable Tips When Making Apple Crescent Dumplings Recipes

Are you a fan of apple desserts? Then, the apple crescent dumplings recipe might be just for you! It is a classic treat that is not only delicious but also easy to make. However, to achieve the perfect apple crescent dumplings, you need to follow the right tips. In this article, we'll share some valuable tips to help you make the best apple crescent dumplings recipe.
1. Use the Right Apples
The best apples to use for a crescent dumpling recipe are those that hold their shape when cooked. Some of the recommended apples for this recipe include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn. Stay away from apples that are too sweet or pears as they tend to become mushy and ruin the texture of the crescents.
2. Make the Filling with Perfect Consistency
A good apple crescent dumpling recipe has a deliciously sweet and spiced filling. To achieve the perfect filling, make sure that the apples are cut into small and even pieces. Cook them until they are soft, yet not overly mushy, and the liquid has thickened into a syrup. For more flavor, you can add in some cinnamon, nutmeg, or vanilla extract.
3. Use Pre-Made Crescent Rolls
Although you can make the crescent rolls from scratch, using pre-made ones is a faster way to get it done. You can find them in your grocery store's frozen section or refrigerated dough section. The pre-made crescent rolls are easy to use, and you don't have to worry about overworking the dough, which could make it tough.
4. Roll Out the Crescent Rolls Correctly
To avoid breaking the dough or having it too thin, make sure that you roll out the crescent dough according to the size of the apple filling. They should be able to wrap around each apple piece without tearing, so it's essential to get the desired thickness to fit your apples.
5. Butter the Crescent Rolls
To add a rich flavor and enhance the golden color of the crescent rolls, coat them with melted butter. It will also prevent the rolls from sticking to your baking dish, making it easier to release them once they're done.
6. Bake the Dumplings at the Right Temperature
The ideal temperature for baking apple crescent dumplings is 375 Fahrenheit. Baking it at a higher temperature can cause the pastry to burn or cook unevenly. Depending on your oven's performance, it usually takes 20 to 25 minutes to bake the dumplings.
7. Let the Dumplings Rest Before Serving
Once the crescent dumplings are hot from the oven, it would be best to let them rest for a few minutes before serving. Slicing them too early can cause the syrup to spill, making the pastry soggy. Letting them rest will ensure that the syrup has set and the pastry has cooled a bit, making it easier to handle and serve.
8. Serve with the Right Toppings
Apple crescent dumplings are delicious served just as they are. However, adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce could elevate them to the next level. The cold creaminess of ice cream or the extra sweetness of the caramel will complement the warm and spicy flavors of the apple pastry.

Conclusion

Making apple crescent dumplings is a fun and easy dessert that everyone can enjoy. By following these valuable tips, you can achieve the perfect balance of sweetness and texture in your apple crescent dumplings. Use the right apples, make the filling with the perfect consistency, use pre-made crescent rolls, roll them out correctly, butter the rolls, bake them at the right temperature, let them rest before serving, and serve them with the right toppings. With these tips, you'll surely impress yourself and your guests with a delicious treat that everyone will love.
