Cinnamon Apple Pie Bars image

It has taken me a while to find a good recipe, but finally with some different trials I find this has a great balance of cinnamon and nutmeg. Not to mention it is so much easier than apple pie and I think it tastes better. You can arrange the top crust lattice-style if desired.

HEALTHY APPLE CINNAMON OATMEAL BARS

Healthy Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Bars image

My version of a very healthy high protein, low sugar, high fiber snack/energy bar. Only good carbs and a low glycemic index. This bar is very tasty and filling! I also want to stress that this is a LOW sugar item. If you are looking for something that is very sweet, like my first reviewer, you may want to add more sugar or splenda. This is personal preference as I do not like things too sweet.

APPLE-CINNAMON CRUMBLE BARS

Apple-Cinnamon Crumble Bars image

These very simple but impressive bars use boxed cake mix for the base, streusel on top and apple butter in between for a sweet snack that's not too sugary.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     dessert

Time 2h5m

Yield 16 bars

Number Of Ingredients 8

Cooking spray
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 box yellow cake mix for two 9-inch rounds
1 large egg
1 cup apple butter
1/2 cup unsweetened instant or quick-cooking oats
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Confectioners' sugar, for dusting

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9-inch square pan with a piece of aluminum foil (about 17 inches long), leaving a 2-inch overhang on each side. Lightly coat the bottom and sides of the lined pan with cooking spray.
  • Melt half the butter (4 tablespoons) in a medium bowl in the microwave, about 45 seconds. Set aside 1 cup of the cake mix, and add the remaining mix to the melted butter. Add the egg and 1 tablespoon water, and mix with a spatula until well blended. Let stand a few minutes until the mixture is no longer tacky to the touch. Pat the dough in an even layer in the pan. Bake until the edges are lightly set to the touch and the crust is lightly browned all over, about 20 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, melt the remaining butter in a medium bowl in the microwave, about 45 seconds. Add the reserved cake mix, oats and cinnamon, and mix with a fork until crumbly.
  • Spread the apple butter over the cooled crust, spreading it to the edges. Scatter the crumb mixture over the apple butter. Return the pan to the oven and continue to bake until the crumbs are golden brown and firm, about 30 minutes more. Cool completely in the pan.
  • Using the foil overhang, lift the bars out of the pan and peel the foil away from the edges. Dust with confectioners' sugar, and cut into 16 bars.

Apple cinnamon bars are a delicious and wholesome snack that can satisfy your sweet tooth while still being healthy. These bars are perfect for a quick breakfast or a midday snack. The combination of apples and cinnamon not only adds a unique flavor but also provides numerous health benefits. Making apple cinnamon bars is easy, but there are certain tips and tricks that can help you achieve the perfect texture and taste. In this article, you will learn about some valuable tips when making apple cinnamon bars recipes.

Tip 1: Choose the Right Apples

The key to making great apple cinnamon bars is choosing the right type of apples. You need apples that are firm and crisp so that they hold their shape and do not turn mushy when baked. Granny Smith apples are a popular choice for this kind of recipe because they are tart and firm. Honeycrisp, Braeburn, and Pink Lady apples are also great options. It’s best to avoid using red delicious apples as they tend to become mushy when baked.

Tip 2: Use High-Quality Cinnamon

Cinnamon is the star of the show in apple cinnamon bars, so it’s important to choose a high-quality cinnamon. Look for cinnamon that is fresh and fragrant. The best type of cinnamon for baking is Ceylon cinnamon, which is also known as true cinnamon. It has a delicate, sweet flavor and is less bitter than Cassia cinnamon, which is the most commonly used type of cinnamon in the United States. If you can’t find Ceylon cinnamon, make sure to use fresh, high-quality Cassia cinnamon.

Tip 3: Combine Apples with Dry Ingredients First

When making apple cinnamon bars, it’s important to add the dry ingredients to the apples before adding any wet ingredients. This ensures that the apples are coated evenly with the dry ingredients, which prevents them from sinking to the bottom of the pan. Mix the dry ingredients such as flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder together in a separate bowl before adding them to the apples.

Tip 4: Use Room Temperature Ingredients

Using room temperature ingredients is important when making apple cinnamon bars. Room temperature butter, eggs, and milk blend much more easily than cold ingredients, resulting in a more homogeneous mixture. Take the eggs and butter out of the refrigerator at least one hour before baking to allow them to come to room temperature.

Tip 5: Don’t Overmix the Batter

When making apple cinnamon bars, it’s important not to overmix the batter. Overmixing can cause gluten to form, which can make the bars tough and chewy. Mix the batter just until the dry ingredients are fully incorporated. There may still be lumps in the batter, but that’s okay.

Tip 6: Add Extra Flavor and Texture

To add extra flavor and texture to your apple cinnamon bars, add some nuts or dried fruits to the batter. Chopped walnuts, pecans or almonds add a crunchy texture to the bars, while dried cranberries or raisins add a sweet and chewy texture. Be sure to adjust the recipe accordingly if you add extra ingredients.

Tip 7: Use Parchment Paper in Baking

Using parchment paper in baking is a game-changer. It reduces the chances of the bars sticking to the pan and also makes cleaning much easier. Line your baking pan with parchment paper before pouring in the batter. To make sure the parchment paper fits the pan perfectly, hold it in place with cooking spray or butter.

Tip 8: Cool Before Cutting

After taking the apple cinnamon bars out of the oven, it’s important to let them cool down to room temperature before cutting. This allows the bars to set and prevents them from crumbling or falling apart when cutting. Once cooled down, use a sharp knife to cut the bars into squares or rectangles.

Conclusion

Apple cinnamon bars are a delicious snack that can be enjoyed at any time of the day. By following these valuable tips, you can ensure that your apple cinnamon bars turn out perfectly every time. Choose the right type of apples, use high-quality cinnamon, combine the dry ingredients first, and add extra flavor and texture to the batter. Use parchment paper when baking and let the bars cool down before cutting. With these simple tips, your apple cinnamon bars will be a hit with everyone!
