APPLE PIE CIDER FLOATS

Apple Pie Cider Floats image

This recipe tastes like apple pie in a float! While I don't drink alcohol as a rule, the Schnapps and bourbon give it a little kick. You could eliminate it if you prefer, as well. I made mine in advance and just whisked it again before I served it. Delish! I made these last night after shopping with my future daughter-in-law for her wedding dress. We all came back to the house, had a pumpkin shaped pizza and I finished with this as a dessert along with the pizza shop's cinnamon ring. The best part is it can be made up in advance. (Since I don't know a thing about alcohol, I went to the liquor store and asked the lady what to buy for apple schnapps and she suggested I buy two little 'airline type' bottles. They were perfect size.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/4 cup(s) water
1/4 cup(s) sugar
1/2 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
2 cup(s) apple cider
1/4 cup(s) apple schnapps
- vanilla ice cream
- optional--cinnamon stick or dried apple slices
2 tablespoon(s) bourbon--ky of course!

Steps:

  • Make cinnamon syrup first: Put 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring to melt the sugar thoroughly. Set aside for later.
  • In a pitcher, place 2 cups apple cider, 1/4 cup cinnamon syrup previously made up, apple Schnapps, and bourbon. Whisk until blended. (Can also be shaken in a cocktail shaker.)
  • Pour about 3 inches of cocktail mix into a coffee mug. Microwave until very warm but not super hot. Drop 3 scoops of ice cream into the mug. Stir a little. Serve with a cinnamon stick or spoon. You can add a squirt of whipped cream on top to decorate. The hot cider melts the ice cream into a wonderful apple pie flavored drink! You can adjust the amount of bourbon and Schnapps as you like.
  • If you save this in the fridge for later, be sure to whisk it well before putting in the mug as the cinnamon tends to settle to the bottom when chilled.

4 scoops (1/4 cup) vanilla ice cream
2 cups fresh apple cider

Steps:

  • Place two scoops of ice cream into each glass.
  • Pour 1 cup of apple cider into each glass, and serve.

Apple cider floats are a classic treat to enjoy during the fall season. The combination of cold vanilla ice cream and warm apple cider creates a flavorful and comforting beverage. There are many variations of apple cider float recipes, each using different ingredients and spices to enhance the flavor of the drink.

The Basics of Apple Cider Floats

The key ingredients for an apple cider float are apple cider and vanilla ice cream. The ice cream is typically scooped into a glass or mug, and then the warm apple cider is poured over it. This creates a frothy and creamy drink that is perfect for sipping on a chilly autumn day.
Choosing the Right Apple Cider
The quality of the apple cider can greatly impact the taste of the float. It is best to choose a fresh, high-quality cider that is not too sweet or too tart. Look for cider that is made with a blend of apple varieties to create a well-rounded flavor. Some recipes call for spiced cider, which has added spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Spiced cider can add an extra layer of flavor to the float, but it is not necessary.
Choosing the Right Ice Cream
Vanilla ice cream provides the perfect base for the apple cider, as it is not too overpowering and allows the flavor of the cider to come through. However, some recipes call for other flavors of ice cream, such as cinnamon or caramel. These specialty flavors can add a unique twist to the classic float, but again, it is not necessary.

Spicing Things Up

Adding spices to an apple cider float can create a warm and comforting atmosphere. Cinnamon and nutmeg are classic spices to add to apple cider floats and can enhance the flavor of the cider. Other spices, such as ginger, allspice, and cloves, can also be added for a more complex flavor. Some recipes even call for adding a dash of whiskey or bourbon to add a grown-up twist to the float.

Alternative Ingredients

While vanilla ice cream and apple cider are the traditional ingredients for an apple cider float, there are many alternative ingredients that can be used. For example, some recipes call for using apple cider vinegar instead of cider, or using a non-dairy vanilla ice cream for a vegan version of the float. Some recipes even call for using hard apple cider instead of the non-alcoholic version, adding an extra kick to the drink.

Conclusion

Apple cider floats are a classic treat that is perfect for the fall season. By experimenting with different spices and alternative ingredients, you can create a unique and flavorful version of this beloved drink. Whether you prefer a classic vanilla ice cream and apple cider float or a more adventurous recipe, there is a version of this drink that is sure to satisfy your taste buds.

Then, taste the mixture and adjust the sweetness as necessary. You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice to the mix if it gets too sweet.

5. Use high-quality ice cream

The ice cream used in an apple cider float recipe should be high in quality, with a creamy, velvety texture. Opt for a pure vanilla ice cream with no added flavors or preservatives. For an extra boost of flavor, you can also try using caramel or cinnamon ice cream.

6. Serve the floats perfectly chilled

8. Experiment with different variations

There are plenty of ways to modify the classic recipe to suit your personal tastes. You can try adding some whiskey or rum to the cider for added warmth and a boozy twist.
