Time 45m

Yield 12 servings (one 9-by-13-inch cake)

Number Of Ingredients 17

Unsalted butter, for greasing the pan
2 cups/255 grams all-purpose flour, plus more for preparing the pan
3/4 cup/165 grams light brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups/480 milliliters unsweetened applesauce
3/4 cup/180 milliliters neutral oil, such as canola or grapeseed
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
8 ounces/230 grams cream cheese, at room temperature
1/4 cup/65 grams unsalted butter (1/2 stick), at room temperature
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 cup/100 grams confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Prepare the cake: Heat oven to 350 degrees and set a rack in the center. Butter and flour a 9-by-13-inch glass or light colored metal baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the light brown sugar and eggs until pale and foamy. Add the applesauce, oil, spices and salt. Whisk to combine.
  • Add the 2 cups flour, baking powder and baking soda, and whisk until well combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smooth the top, and firmly tap the pan on a countertop a few times to release air bubbles. Bake the cake until golden and puffed, and a tester inserted into the center comes out clean, 30 to 40 minutes. Cool the cake in the pan on a rack.
  • When the cake is cool, make the frosting: Add the cream cheese, butter and cinnamon to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix on medium-high until smooth, stopping the mixer occasionally to scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl. Turn the speed to low, and slowly add the confectioners' sugar. Mix until the sugar is moistened, then turn the speed up to medium-high and whip until smooth and fluffy.
  • Spread the frosting over the cooled cake and serve. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 3 days.

Apple cider cake with apple cinnamon cream cheese frosting is an irresistible dessert that combines the flavours of fresh apples, cinnamon and cream cheese. It is a warm and comforting cake that can be enjoyed as a snack or for dessert with family and friends. In this article, we are going to provide some valuable tips to ensure that your apple cider cake with apple cinnamon cream cheese frosting recipe is a success and will leave everyone wanting more.

Tips for making the perfect Apple Cider Cake

1. Choose the right Apples: In order to make a delicious apple cider cake, it is important to choose the right type of apples. The best apples for this recipe are sweet-tart apples like Honeycrisp or Gala, which hold their shape well when baked. 2. Reduce the apple cider: For a more concentrated apple flavour, it is important to reduce the apple cider before adding it to the cake. To do this, bring the apple cider to a boil and then simmer it on medium-low heat until it has reduced to half its original volume. 3. Use room temperature ingredients: In order to ensure that the ingredients mix together easily, it is important to use room temperature ingredients. Take the eggs, butter, and cream cheese out of the refrigerator 30 minutes before using them. 4. Measure ingredients correctly: Accurately measuring ingredients is a crucial aspect of successful baking. Always use a scale or measuring cups to ensure that you have the right amount of ingredients. 5. Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter can result in a tough and dry cake. It is important to mix the batter until the ingredients are just combined. 6. Bake at the right temperature: Always preheat the oven before baking the cake. The ideal baking temperature for this cake is 350°F (180°C). Bake the cake for around 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean. 7. Cool the cake completely: Once the cake is baked, it is important to let it cool completely before frosting it. If the cake is too warm, the frosting may slide off.

Tips for making the perfect Apple Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

1. Use quality cream cheese: The key ingredient in apple cinnamon cream cheese frosting is quality cream cheese. Make sure to use a high-quality cream cheese, ideally full fat, for the best results. 2. Soften the cream cheese: Just like with the other ingredients in this recipe, it is important to let the cream cheese soften to room temperature before using it in the frosting. This will allow it to combine smoothly with the other ingredients. 3. Use real butter: To enhance the flavour and texture of the frosting, it is important to use real butter. Make sure to use unsalted butter so that you can control the amount of salt that goes into the frosting. 4. Gradually add powdered sugar: When making frosting, adding all the powdered sugar at once can result in a lumpy and uneven texture. It is best to add the powdered sugar gradually, in tablespoons, while beating the frosting until it reaches the desired consistency. 5. Add the cinnamon and apple cider: To give the frosting its signature flavour, add cinnamon and reduced apple cider. For a more prominent apple flavour, reduce the apple cider to half its original volume before adding it to the frosting.

Tips for decorating the Apple Cider Cake with Apple Cinnamon Frosting

1. Let the cake cool completely: It is important to let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will make it easier to work with and prevent the frosting from melting. 2. Level the cake: Use a serrated knife to level the cake so that the top is flat. This will make it easier to frost and decorate. 3. Use a piping bag: To make the frosting more decorative, use a piping bag to create swirls or decorate the cake. You can also use a butter knife to create a rustic look. 4. Add cinnamon sugar: To give the cake an extra pop of flavour and texture, sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top of the frosting before serving.

Conclusion

Apple cider cake with apple cinnamon cream cheese frosting is the perfect dessert for any occasion. By following these valuable tips, you can ensure that your cake is a success and that your family and friends will love it. Remember to choose the right apples, reduce the apple cider, measure ingredients correctly, soften the cream cheese, and gradually add powdered sugar. With these tips, you will be able to make a delicious and impressive apple cider cake with apple cinnamon cream cheese frosting.
