Yield 1 tart, 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 double crust pie crust
5 fuji apples, Granny Smith apples or 5 golden delicious apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
3/4 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 dash nutmeg

1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1/8 cup sugar, mixed with
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • On floured work surface, rool out pastry dough into a 16" round.
  • Fold dough in half and transfer to a lightly greased baking sheet. Set aside.

  • Mound apple mixture in the middle of the dough, leaving two to four inches all around the edge.
  • Scatter cheddar cheese over mixture.

  • Lightly baste with water, then sprinkle sugar/cinnamon mix on top.
  • Bake tart in preheated oven until pastry is golden and apples are tender, about 30 to 35 minutes.

Apple cheddar n spice cookie tart is a wonderful dessert for anyone who loves sweet and savory flavors. This dessert is a combination of tangy cheddar cheese, sweet apple chunks, and warm spices, all encased in a cookie crust. Whether you're making it for a special occasion or just want to indulge in a delicious treat, here are some tips to help you make the perfect apple cheddar n spice cookie tart recipe.

Tip 1: Choose the Right Apples

The apples you choose for this tart can make or break the recipe. When selecting apples, you want to choose ones that are firm and not overly ripe. Apples that are too ripe will turn to mush during baking, resulting in a soggy tart. Tart apples, like Granny Smiths or Honeycrisps, work best in this recipe because they hold their shape during cooking and won't turn to mush.

Tip 2: Make the Cookie Crust from Scratch

The cookie crust for this tart is made from scratch, and it's worth the effort. Not only does it taste better than store-bought crusts, but it's also easy to make. All you need is flour, sugar, butter, and an egg. Be sure to mix the ingredients together well and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out. Chilling the dough makes it easier to work with and helps prevent the crust from shrinking during baking.

Tip 3: Shred Your Own Cheese

While it may be tempting to use pre-shredded cheese, it's not the best choice for this recipe. Pre-shredded cheese often contains additives that can affect the texture and flavor of the cheese. Instead, shred your own cheese using a box grater or food processor. A sharp cheddar cheese works best in this recipe, as it adds a tangy flavor that complements the sweetness of the apples.

Tip 4: Use a Food Processor to Make the Cookie Crust

If you have a food processor, use it to make the cookie crust. Not only is it faster, but it also ensures that the ingredients are evenly mixed. Simply pulse the flour, sugar, and butter together until the mixture looks like coarse sand. Then, add the egg and pulse until the dough comes together. Be sure not to overmix the dough, as this can make it tough.

Tip 5: Pre-Cook the Apples

To prevent the apples from releasing too much liquid during baking, pre-cook them in a saucepan with a little bit of butter and sugar. Cook the apples until they are slightly softened but still hold their shape. This will help ensure that the filling stays thick and doesn't become too watery.

Tip 6: Don't Overfill the Tart

When adding the filling to the cookie crust, be careful not to overfill the tart. Overfilling the tart can cause the filling to spill over the edge during baking, resulting in a messy tart. Leave a small amount of space at the top of the tart to prevent this from happening.

Tip 7: Bake the Tart on a Baking Sheet

To prevent any spills or drips from the tart from ruining your oven, place the tart on a baking sheet before baking. This will catch any spills and make cleanup a breeze. Additionally, baking the tart on a baking sheet ensures that the bottom of the tart cooks evenly.

Tip 8: Serve the Tart Warm

This tart is best served warm, so allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. The filling will thicken as it cools, so serve it while it's still warm and gooey.

Conclusion

These tips will help you create a delicious apple cheddar n spice cookie tart that everyone will love. From choosing the right apples to pre-cooking them to perfecting the cookie crust, every step is important in creating the perfect dessert. Remember to serve it warm for the ultimate indulgent treat.
