CARAMEL APPLE HAND PIES RECIPE BY TASTY

Caramel Apple Hand Pies Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: granny smith apples, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, salt, pie dough, medium egg, unsalted butter, brown sugar, vanilla, salt, honey

Provided by Julie Klink

Categories     Bakery Goods

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

3 granny smith apples
½ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
2 shells pie dough, thawed and prepared
1 medium egg, beaten
¼ cup unsalted butter, 1/2 stick
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon salt
¼ cup honey

Steps:

  • On a cutting board peel and cut the apples into slices ¼-inch (6-mm) thick.
  • Place the apple slices in a medium bowl. Add the sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and salt. Mix until the apples are well-coated, then set aside until ready to use.
  • Preheat the oven to 400˚F (200˚C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out one of the pie crusts. Use a 4-inch (10-cm) diameter glass or ramekin to cut 6 rounds from the dough. Repeat with the remaining crust so you have 12 dough circles total.
  • Place a few apple slices on top of one of the dough circles. Place another circle of dough on top, and seal the edges together. With a fork, crimp the edges and poke a few holes on the top of the hand pie. Repeat with the rest of dough and apples.
  • Transfer the hand pies to the baking sheet and brush with egg wash. Bake for 20 minutes, until golden. Let cool for 10 minutes.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter with the brown sugar, vanilla, salt, and honey. Mix thoroughly until the caramel begins to bubble. Remove the sauce from the heat and pour into a small bowl for dipping.
  • Once the hand pies have cooled, dunk them face down into the caramel, let any excess drip off. Flip the hand pies right-side up so the caramel oozes down to the edges. Let cool for 2 minutes.
  • Enjoy!

CARAMEL ROSE APPLE PIE RECIPE BY TASTY

Caramel Rose Apple Pie Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: apples, lemon, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, prepared pie dough, heavy cream

Provided by Rie McClenny

Categories     Desserts

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 apples
1 lemon, juiced
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup brown sugar
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
1 prepared pie dough
¼ cup heavy cream

Steps:

  • Peel the apples and place them in a large bowl with enough water to cover. Squeeze lemon juice in the water to prevent the apples from browning. Working with 1 apple at a time, cut around the core, discarding the core and removing the "cheeks." Slice the cheeks very thin.
  • In a large bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir to combine. Add the sliced apples, stir to coat, and let sit for 30 minutes.
  • Line a pie dough in a 9-inch (23-cm) cast-iron pan, and prick the dough with a fork all around. Chill in the fridge until very firm, 20-30 minutes.
  • Working in batches, remove the apples from the cinnamon-sugar mixture by taking a handful at a time and carefully squeezing them with your hands to remove the excess moisture. Place the drained apples in a separate large bowl, reserving the liquid to make the caramel sauce.
  • Preheat the oven to 375˚F (190˚C).
  • Working from the outside in, line the apple slices on the pie dough by overlapping each slice to create a rose shape. Roll up 1 apple slice tightly and place it in the center, creating a bud shape. Cover the pan with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for 10 minutes more, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
  • In a saucepan, bring the reserved cinnamon-sugar liquid to a boil. Once the liquid is reduced by half, 10-15 minutes, add the heavy cream and stir well.
  • To serve, pour the caramel sauce over the apple pie.
  • Enjoy!

Provided by Betsy Carter

8 large granny smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
3 tablespoons lemon juice
¼ cup all-purpose flour
⅔ cup granulated sugar
2 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 premade pie crusts, thawed if frozen
1 large egg, beaten

  • Trim any extra dough from the edges. Press the rounded edge of spoon facedown around the edge, making shallow indentations to crimp the crusts together.
  • Cut 4 slits in the top of the pie for ventilation, then brush with the beaten egg.

CHEF JOHN'S CARAMEL APPLE PIE

Chef John's Caramel Apple Pie image

To me, this is the purest and most intensely flavored apple pie recipe there is. The interesting thing about this recipe is the way the caramel sauce is poured over the apples and the lattice crust. You know how with a traditional apple pie some of the apple juices will caramelize as it bakes and bubble out of the pie and bake into and onto the flaky crust? That's how this whole pie is.

Provided by Chef John

Categories     Desserts     Pies     Apple Pie Recipes

Time 1h40m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 tablespoons unsalted butter
½ cup white sugar
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup water
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch salt
5 apples - peeled, cored and sliced
1 pastry for double-crust pie (see footnote for recipe link)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Combine butter, white sugar, brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and set aside.
  • Roll out half the pastry to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place bottom crust in pie plate; pour in apple slices.
  • Roll out top crust into a 10-inch circle. Cut into 8 (1-inch) wide strips with a sharp paring knife or pastry wheel. Weave the pastry strips, one at a time, into a lattice pattern. Fold the ends of the lattice strips under the edge of the bottom crust and crimp to seal.
  • Pour butter-sugar mixture over top of pie, coating the lattice, and allowing any remaining sauce to drizzle through the crust.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and bake until the crust is golden brown, the caramel on the top crust is set, and the apple filling is bubbling, 35 to 40 more minutes. Allow to cool completely before slicing.

APPLE CARAMEL PIE RECIPE BY TASTY

Apple Caramel Pie Recipe by Tasty image

Apple Caramel Pie as made by Mimo Ahmed

Provided by Mimo Ahmed

Categories     Desserts

Time 3h20m

Yield 8 Servings

Number Of Ingredients 23

2.5 cups all purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup unsalted butter, cut into ½-inch cubes and chilled
¼ cup vodka
1 cup cold water
½ cup ice cube
2 tablespoons water
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsalted butter
½ cup heavy cream
apple pie filling
6 apples granny smith apples
¼ cup fresh lemon juice
5 dashes angostura bitters
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons arrowroot powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground allspice
1 pinch freshly grated nutmeg
1 egg egg, Beat Egg with Water
1 sprinkle raw sugar
1 tablespoon water, Beat with Egg

Steps:

  • Make the pie dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the butter cubes and toss to coat. Use a bench scraper to cut the butter into the flour until the butter is broken down to lima bean-sized cubes.
  • In a small bowl or liquid measuring cup, stir together the vodka, water, and ice.
  • Sprinkle ¼ cup of the liquid over the flour mixture and use a bench scraper or your hands to incorporate until the dough begins to come together. Sprinkle in ¼ cup more liquid and continue mixing. If the dough isn't coming together, sprinkle the dry bits with more small drops of the liquid as necessary; the dough will look shaggy. Fold the dough over itself to bring it together until all of the flour is incorporated. Discard the remaining liquid.
  • Turn the dough onto a clean surface and use the bench scraper to divide it into 2 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a flat disc and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, but preferably overnight, before rolling out.
  • Make the caramel: In a small saucepan, combine the water and sugar and cook over medium heat, without stirring, until golden brown in color, about 10 minutes.
  • Remove the pot from the heat, add the butter, and whisk to combine. Return the pot to the heat and pour in the cream (be careful; the mixture will bubble). Whisk well to combine, then remove the pot from the heat and set aside to cool.
  • Make the apple filling: Peel the apples and cut in half, then remove the cores and cut the halves into quarters. Transfer to a large bowl and add the lemon juice and Angostura bitters. Toss to coat the apples.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, arrowroot, cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg. Sprinkle the dry ingredients over the apples and use your hands to toss until evenly coated.
  • Assemble the pie: Dust a clean surface and a rolling pin with flour. Place a chilled disc of pie dough on the surface and lightly dust with flour. Roll out the dough, starting from the center and lightly pressing down with the rolling pin to flatten slightly. Rotate the dough 90° and repeat, pressing down so it's evenly flattened all around, about ⅛ inch thick, then roll outward to make a circle. Continue rolling and rotating until the dough is about 2-3 inches larger in diameter than the pie dish.
  • Drape the dough gently into the pie dish, being careful not to stretch it.
  • Pour about ½ cup of the caramel sauce into the pie shell, then top with the apple filling, avoiding gaps. Mound the apples slightly in the middle of the pie.
  • Roll out the remaining disc of pie dough. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the dough into 8 strips of equal width. Assemble the lattice on top of the pie and press the edges of the top and bottom crusts together, then trim and crimp the edges as desired.
  • Brush any exposed dough with egg wash and sprinkle with raw sugar. Freeze for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Place the pie on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (180°C) and continue baking for 60 minutes more, until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  • Let the pie cool for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving.
  • Enjoy!

CARAMEL APPLE PIE

Caramel Apple Pie image

Learn how to make this sweet and chewy Caramel Apple Pie from Food Network.

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     dessert

Time 2h25m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 20

3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for flouring
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) salted butter, cut into pieces
3/4 cup vegetable shortening or lard
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
1 egg, lightly beaten
6 to 7 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples
1/2 lemon, juiced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup quick oats
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
1/2 jar (or more) caramel topping

Steps:

  • For the perfect spiced pie crust: Mix the flour, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in a bowl. Add the butter and vegetable shortening. Work the butter into the flour using a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles tiny pebbles. Add the white vinegar, egg and 5 tablespoons cold water and stir until just combined.
  • Form 2 equal-sized balls. Place each in a large plastic bag (do not seal) and slightly flatten with a rolling pin; this makes it much easier to roll out the crust later. After flattening, seal the bag tightly. Place in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes to chill.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Remove 1 bag of dough from the freezer (save the other dough for another use), remove the dough from the bag and place it on a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough starting at the center and working outward. Be gentle and patient; it'll take a little time to get the dough completely rolled out. If you think the bottom is really sticking to the surface below while rolling, use a metal spatula to loosen it. When fully rolled out, loosen again with a spatula and lift the pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan (or you can roll the pastry over the rolling pin, lift it onto the pie pan and unroll it). Gently press the dough against the corner of the pan and tear off any excess dough. Then tuck under the edges and go around the pie pan pinching the dough to crimp the edge.
  • For the pie filling: In a bowl, mix the apples, lemon juice, granulated sugar, flour and salt. Set aside.
  • For the crumb topping: Cut the butter into the flour with a pastry cutter, then add in the brown sugar, oats and salt.
  • Add the apples to the prepared pie shell and top with the crumb topping. Bake for 1 hour, covering the edge of the crust with foil if it starts to brown too quickly. After an hour, sprinkle the chopped pecans over the pie, then bake for a further 5 minutes.
  • Remove the pie from the oven and pour 1/2 jar (or more, if you're feeling dangerous and naughty) of caramel topping over the top. Allow to cool slightly before serving - or don't if you can't wait!

Number Of Ingredients 22

3 ¾ cups all purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1 pinch kosher salt
3 sticks unsalted butter, cut into 1/2 in (1.24 cm) and frozen for 15 minutes
¾ cup water, ice water, plus more as needed
1 large egg, with 1 tablespoon water
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 lb Granny Smith applesGranny Smith apples, peeled and sliced into ¼-inch (6 mm) wedges
3 lb honeycrisp apple, peeled and sliced into ¼-inch (6 mm) wedges
1 lemon
1 ½ cups brown sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla bean paste
¼ cup cornstarch
3 tablespoons water
1 cup apple cider
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
⅓ cup water
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
¾ cup heavy cream, room temperature
½ teaspoon kosher salt
pecan, candied chopped, for garnish

Steps:

  • Make the pie dough: In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Add the butter and toss to coat each cube with the flour, then smash each piece of butter with your fingers.
  • Add the ice water, 1-2 tablespoons at a time, and continue to toss until the dough holds together when pressed between your hands. You may not need all of the water, but if the dough is too dry, add more, 1 teaspoon at a time, as needed. The dough should not be very tacky or sticky.
  • Turn the dough onto a clean surface. Work into 2 discs and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Make the filling: Melt the butter in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, salt, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla bean paste. Stir to coat the apples well and cook until they start to soften and release their juices and the sugar dissolves, 5-7 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water. Pour the slurry over the apples, increase the heat to high, and cook until the juices are boiling and thickened, 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and let the filling cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes.
  • Make the apple cider syrup: Add the apple cider to a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to boil and cook until reduced to 2 tablespoons with the consistency of maple syrup, about 10 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature.
  • Assemble the pie: On a floured surface, roll a disc of pie dough into a 12-inch (30 cm) round, about ¼ inch (6 mm) thick. Transfer to a 9-inch (22 cm) deep dish pie plate.
  • Add the apple filling to the crust, along with any accumulated juices from the bottom of the bowl. Drizzle the apple cider syrup on top. Refrigerate while you roll out the other dough.
  • Roll out the remaining dough disc to a 12-inch (30 cm) round. Drape over the pie, then pinch the edges together. Trim any excess dough around the edges, then roll the edges under all the way around the pie. Use the knuckle of an index finger on one hand and your index finger and thumb on the other hand to make large crimps around the edges.
  • Brush the dough all over with the egg wash. Use a paring knife to cut a few vents in the top to allow steam to escape.
  • Transfer the assembled pie to the freezer for 20 minutes, until firm.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  • Place the pie dish on the prepared baking sheet, then transfer to the oven and bake for 80-90 minutes, covering with foil halfway through. Cook until the juices are bubbling and the crust is golden brown. Remove the pie from the oven and let cool for at least 1 hour.
  • Meanwhile, make the salted caramel: Add the sugar, water, and corn syrup to a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a low boil and cook until the sugar dissolves and mixture starts to turn a light copper color, about 10 minutes.
  • Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the cream and salt until incorporated. If the caramel seems too thin, return to medium low heat and boil until thickened to your desired consistency, 1-2 minutes. Transfer the caramel to a heat-proof liquid measuring cup and let cool to room temperature, 30-60 minutes.
  • Pour the cooled caramel sauce over the pie and garnish with candied pecans.
  • Slice and serve.
  • Enjoy!

Ingredients: -2 premade pie crusts or homemade pie crusts -6 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced into thin wedges -3/4 cup granulated sugar -5 tablespoons unsalted butter -1/4 cup all-purpose flour -1/4 cup water -1/4 cup heavy cream -1 teaspoon vanilla extract -1/4 teaspoon salt -1 teaspoon cinnamon -1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Tools: -Mixing bowl -Measuring cups and spoons -Knife and cutting board -Pie plate -Rolling pin -Parchment paper -Pie weights or dried beans -Saucepan -Wooden spoon Valuable Tips: 1. Choose the Right Apples: The type of apples you use in an Apple Caramel Pie plays a crucial role in the taste and texture of the pie. The ideal apples to use are firm and tart apples like Granny Smith apples. These apples hold their shape well when baked and have a tart flavor that balances well with the sweetness of the caramel. 2. Precook the Apples: To prevent the apples from becoming too mushy when baked, it is recommended to precook them before adding them to the pie crust. This will also help the apples release excess moisture, making the filling less runny. 3. Add Cornstarch to the Filling: Cornstarch is a great thickening agent that helps the filling become creamy and thick. It also helps absorb any excess moisture from the apples, preventing the filling from becoming watery. 4. Blind Bake the Pie Crust: Blind baking the pie crust means that you bake the pie crust alone before adding the filling. This will prevent the crust from getting soggy due to the excess moisture in the filling. To blind bake the pie crust, line the crust with parchment paper and fill it with pie weights or dried beans. Bake for a few minutes until the crust is lightly browned, then remove the parchment and weights, and continue baking until fully cooked. 5. Make a Perfect Caramel: Making the perfect caramel is essential when making an Apple Caramel Pie. The caramel adds a rich sweetness to the pie, and it should be smooth and glossy. To make the perfect caramel, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns amber in color. At this point, add butter and stir until it melts. Then, add the heavy cream slowly while stirring. Continue stirring until the caramel is smooth and glossy. Be careful not to overcook the caramel, or it will become too hard and will not spread well. 6. Add Spices to the Filling: Adding spices to the filling is an excellent way to enhance the flavor of the pie. Cinnamon and nutmeg are great options to add a warm and aromatic touch to the filling. However, be careful not to overdo it, or the spices will overpower the taste of the apples. 7. Decorate the Top of the Pie: The top of the Apple Caramel Pie should not only taste delicious but also look visually appealing. Consider decorating the top of the pie with apple slices arranged in a circular pattern, or add some caramel drizzles for an extra touch of sweetness.
