The little babies are so good and so fattening! Only because they're deep fried and dipped in caramel. I guess if you wanted to bake them, you could, but it's quicker for me to fry a few when I have a craving. The best way to describe them would be little fried apple pies without having to make dough or get flour everywhere. Very simple and few ingredients, but delicious.

Categories     Fruit Desserts

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 large granny smith apples
11 oz refrigerated bread sticks
1 medium orange, juiced and zested
1 pkg butter buds
1/2 c sugar
1 tsp cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375°.
  • 2. Prepare apples: slice, core and peel (can leave peels on, if you desire). Cut the apple slices in half cross-wise, so they make a small 'chunk'.
  • 3. Unroll the bread stick dough, and separate into 8 bread sticks. Cut each one in half cross-wise, to make 16 pieces of bread. If you can't find refrigerated bread sticks (next to the refrigerated biscuits), you can substitute croissant rolls ... they're just as good, slightly different texture, and bake in a little dumpling shape, instead of the rolled bundle shape. Prepare them the say way you do the bread sticks, just cutting them in half, to make smaller triangles.
  • 4. Place 3-4 apple chunks at the end of each piece of dough; roll up. Arrange the little bundles in a 9x13" baking pan.
  • 5. Remove the zest from the orange; you will use one teaspoon of this. Juice the orange, and pour the juice into the bottom of the baking dish, around the bottoms of the apple bundles.
  • 6. Combine Butter Buds with hot water, as directed on the package. Pour the liquified butter mix over the bundles. *Butter Buds can be found in the spice, diet or baking goods aisle of your grocery store. If you can't find Butter Buds, just use melted butter or margarine, about a 1/3 or 1/4 cup, or spray on little spritzes of liquid butter.
  • 7. Mix the orange zest, sugar and cinnamon, and sprinkle over the bundles.
  • 8. Bake 25 - 30 minutes, until golden brown and puffy. Serve warm, with light whipped topping, or ice cream.
  • 9. *Butter Buds can be found in the spice, diet or baking goods aisle of your grocery store. If you can't find refrigerated bread sticks (next to the refrigerated biscuits), you can substitute croissant rolls ... they're just as good, slightly different texture, and bake in a little dumpling shape, instead of the rolled bundle shape.

Apple bundles recipes are the perfect way to enjoy the sweetness of apples in a unique and delicious way. These recipes come in different forms, such as apple dumplings, apple pies, apple turnovers, among others. If you are planning to make apple bundles recipes, there are some valuable tips that you should keep in mind. In this article, we have outlined some of the best tips that will help you make delicious apple bundles that your family and friends will love. Choose the right type of apples: The first thing that you need to consider when making apple bundles is the type of apples to use. Not all apples are created equal, and some work better than others when it comes to baking. You should choose apples that are firmer, tarter, and retain their shape when cooked. Some of the best apple varieties for baking include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, Rome, and Jonagold, among others. Consider the size and thickness of the apple slices: The second thing to consider is the size and thickness of the apple slices. The size and thickness of apple slices can significantly affect the final outcome of the apple bundles. For instance, if you cut the apple slices too thin, they may become too soft and mushy when baked. On the other hand, if you cut the apple slices too thick, they may not cook evenly or thoroughly. The ideal size of apple slices for most apple bundles is around 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thick. Pre-cook the apple slices: Another valuable tip when making apple bundles is pre-cooking the apple slices. Pre-cooking helps to soften the apples slightly, which makes them easier to fold and wrap. You can pre-cook the apple slices by sauteing them in a pan with some butter or cooking them in a microwave. Pre-cooking also helps to reduce the baking time, which is especially useful when using a pastry dough that cooks quickly. Use the right pastry dough: There are different types of pastry dough that you can use when making apple bundles, such as puff pastry, pie crust, or croissant dough. Each type of pastry dough can give different results, and the choice you make will depend on the type of apple bundle you want to make. For instance, if you want flaky and buttery apple bundles, you can use puff pastry. On the other hand, if you want a more traditional apple pie flavor, you can use pie crust. Seal the apple bundles properly: To prevent the filling from spilling out and the dough from coming apart, it is essential to seal the apple bundles properly. You can seal the apple bundles by pinching the edges of the pastry dough together with your fingers or by using a fork. Be sure to seal the edges tightly to avoid any leaks when the apple bundles bake. Add spices and glazes: Lastly, to enhance the flavor of the apple bundles, you can add spices and glazes. Some of the spices that work well with apples include cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cardamom. You can sprinkle these spices on the apple slices or mix them in with the filling. Additionally, you can add glazes to the apple bundles, such as a simple syrup glaze or a milk and sugar glaze. The glazes not only add sweetness but also add a shiny appearance to the apple bundles. Conclusion: Making apple bundles recipes can be a fun and delicious way to enjoy the goodness of apples. With the tips outlined above, you can make apple bundles that not only look good but also taste excellent. Remember to choose the right type of apples, cut the apple slices to the ideal size and thickness, pre-cook the apple slices, use the right pastry dough, seal the edges tightly, and add spices and glazes for the best results.
