2 eggs
1 c dried bread crumbs
1 medium sweet onion, chopped
1 large apple, firm, chopped
12 slice bacon, 6 cooked and chopped, 6 uncooked

  • 4. Place 3 slices of uncooked bacon on each loaf.
  • 5. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour until cooked through. Switch oven to broil setting. Broil for 10 minutes or until bacon on top is crisp. Let meatloaf rest before moving to serving plate. (Remember, the bread is not for eating. It is soaked with grease. Just discard.)

Valuable Tips when Making Apple Bacon Meatloaf Recipes

Apple bacon meatloaf is a delicious twist on the classic ground beef meatloaf. The sweet and savory combination of apples and bacon is sure to satisfy your taste buds. However, making it can be challenging if you don't have the right tips and tricks. Here are some valuable tips to help you make the perfect apple bacon meatloaf.
TIP #1: Choose the Right Ingredients
The success of your apple bacon meatloaf recipe largely depends on the quality of the ingredients you use. Make sure you choose fresh, high-quality ingredients, particularly the ground beef. Choose lean ground beef with at least 85% meat and 15% fat. The ground beef should also be freshly ground for the best flavor and texture. When it comes to the apples, choose firm and tart apples like Granny Smith. These apples hold up well in the meatloaf and add a tart flavor that pairs well with the bacon. For the bacon, choose thick-cut bacon for more flavor and texture.
TIP #2: Add Flavorful Spices and Seasonings
The right combination of spices and seasonings can turn a bland meatloaf into a delicious one. For the apple bacon meatloaf, consider adding spices like thyme, sage, onion powder, and garlic powder. These herbs and spices complement the sweet and savory flavors of the meatloaf. Apart from spices, you can also add Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce to the meatloaf mixture for added umami flavor. Brown sugar and mustard are also great additions to the topping of the meatloaf, creating a sweet and tangy glaze that complements the flavors of the bacon and apples.
TIP #3: Handle the Meatloaf Mixture Properly
When preparing the meatloaf mixture, be sure to handle it gently. Overmixing the mixture can make the meatloaf tough and dry. Use a light hand when mixing the ingredients, and avoid packing the mixture down tightly into the loaf pan. Another important tip is to let the meatloaf mixture rest before baking it. This allows the flavors to meld together, making the meatloaf more flavorful. You can let the mixture rest in the fridge for anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour before baking.
TIP #4: Cook the Meatloaf Properly
Cooking the meatloaf properly is crucial if you want it to be moist and flavorful. Overcooking the meatloaf can dry it out and make it tough. Make sure you preheat the oven before baking the meatloaf and bake it until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F. Also, consider using a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the meatloaf. This will ensure that the meatloaf is cooked through and safe to eat.
TIP #5: Let the Meatloaf Rest
Once the meatloaf is cooked, resist the urge to slice into it right away. Letting the meatloaf rest for 10 to 15 minutes after baking allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a moist and flavorful meatloaf.
TIP #6: Serve with the Right Sides
Apple bacon meatloaf pairs well with a variety of sides, including mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and a fresh green salad. Consider serving the meatloaf with a creamy gravy or a tangy apple chutney to add more flavor. Final Thoughts Making a delicious apple bacon meatloaf requires careful ingredient selection, proper handling of the meatloaf mixture, and the right cooking techniques. Follow these valuable tips, and you'll be well on your way to making the perfect apple bacon meatloaf that will delight your taste buds.
